Our thoughts are with Roi for a complete and speedy recovery from his accident. May these painful reminders of the fragility of life serve to bring us closer together to share in love and happiness the good times we are graced with.
On the lighter side, we feel lucky to have such a virtuous live collaborator as Jeff Coffin joining the band on the road as Roi recovers. |

| Waiting to be liberated...
|
added on 6/6/2008 |
In keeping with the tradition at the start of a tour, we have updated the top 20 songs that have been missing from sets the longest.
The ground rules:
1) These are full band songs only. Songs that were never played full band to begin with, such as Waste and Hold Me Down, are not included.
2) Dave Solo and Dave and Tim versions do not count as returns because they are not full band. The "Last Show" dates refer to the last known full band version. This is, after all, a full band tour.
3) We include only songs that have been regular features during one or more tours. Songs such as Love of My Life, Eyes of the World, Me and Julio, and so on are not counted.
4) Studio songs that were played live are counted no matter what. The three songs confirmed finished in the studio but never played live: Dreams of Our Fathers (released officially), Trouble With You (released officially as a bonus track) and Monkey Man (not released, but known by fans as well as they know most other songs) are not included.
Days since is as of June 6, 2008.

| dmbalmanac Official Glossary Entry #451: Promotion
|
added on 6/5/2008 |
When You Might Die Trying either closes the main set, or closes the encore two more times, it joins a select group of songs that have promoted from the catalog of main set songs to a power slot song. Over the last ten years (starting with the 1999 Summer Tour), only five songs have gotten a true promotion (Die Trying probably soon to be #6). In order to get a true promotion from us, a song must close a main set or close an encore three times at a full band show in one calendar year (note that it must actually close the encore). There have been songs that had experiments as a power slot song (I Did It in 2002, for example) that do not qualify. If a new song is played three or more times in a power slot in its first year, it does not qualify (such as Louisiana Bayou). However, these five songs went at least one calendar year without closing a set or encore more than two times. Starting with the 1999 Summer Tour, can you name the five that got a true promotion?
Answers will be posted when You Might Die Trying hits #3.
Small hint: Warehouse broke through in 2004, but closed several shows in 1993.

| Unknown guitarist mystery solved
|
added on 5/5/2008 |
Thanks to a digitized television recording of the band's 2.27.01 appearance on MTV's Total Request Live, it has been verified that the 'unknown guitarist' is in fact Ethan Johns.
It was also confirmed by an attendee that Everyday was, in fact, not debuted full band on this date, but was instead teased. |

FROM THE MANAGEMENT:
We are excited to announce that the next volume in Dave Matthews Band's Live Trax series is now available for Pre-Order! The 11th volume of the Live Trax Series is a coveted 2000 show from the popular venue set amidst a beautiful state park, referred to by concert-goers as "SPAC". Dave Matthews Band always includes Saratoga Performing Arts Center as a stop on the summer tour and holds the record for selling out the most shows at SPAC!
ABOUT THE SHOW:
The summer of 2000 found DMB continuing to evolve; each band member was really “coming into their own”, showcasing their individual talents and strengths on stage. Butch Taylor joined DMB during the summer of 2000 and has been performing with Dave Matthews Band ever since! Although the SPAC show occurred towards the end of the summer tour, DMB managed to pull out some real surprises on stage that August evening.
DMB gained traction immediately with show opener The Stone and didn’t slow down until Grace is Gone, a new song introduced that summer. Digging A Ditch is also a song on the SPAC setlist which debuted during the 2000 summer tour. To the delight of every hardcore DMB fan in the house, noted rarity Minarets was performed. Lie In Our Graves was played and featured spectacular solos by Boyd and Butch. The band teased the first few notes of Too Much after Anyone Seen the Bridge but threw the crowd for a loop when they completely switched gears and launched into an incredible Ants Marching jam. #41 was performed with lots of momentum with LeRoi pulling out all the stops. Lastly, Daniel Lanois’ spirited song The Maker is also a highlight of the 2000 SPAC show.
FROM US:
The eleventh installment in the Live Trax series gives fans their second taste of the 2000 Summer Tour and their first taste of one of DMB's more popular venues. With the release of this show, we will have 22 officially-released versions of Ants Marching, 20 of Crash Into Me, and 16 each of Don't Drink the Water and All Along the Watchtower. While there are no first-time releases on this show, it's not without its unique moments, such as the Too Much fake » Ants Marching segue; Minarets, which was only played twice on the whole tour; and a mid-set Watchtower, which has become a rarity over the years since this show. There are also a number of songs that haven't seen many releases yet: Digging a Ditch (4), JTR (4), Minarets (4, although this is the same version that appears on Warehouse 5 Vol. 3), and The Maker (6). Four then-new songs from the Lillywhite Sessions are in this setlist: Bartender, Digging a Ditch, Grace Is Gone, and JTR. Absent are Busted Stuff, Grey Street, Raven, and Sweet Up and Down.
The artwork matches that from Live Trax 10, this time with a yellow color scheme and a black-and-white close-up of one of Boyd's violins.

Dave Matthews Band performed a concert on September 8, 2007 in front of 50,000+ fans at the Meadow of Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Live at Piedmont Park captures Dave Matthews Band's entire performance, once again displaying one of their finest moments in a large public park setting. Live at Piedmont Park is the first full Dave Matthews Band concert release on DVD since the 2003 release of The Central Park Concert.
Live at Piedmont Park has been remixed and recut since the Peachtree TV broadcast and will be available on double DVD, triple CD, and an iPod compatible Digital Download. Pre-Order Live at Piedmont Park at a special PRE-ORDER ONLY Discounted Price until 3pm EST on Friday, December 7, 2007.
ABOUT THE SHOW
It was a beautiful late summer evening in Atlanta, Georgia with a cloudless sky and a perfect temperature. DMB began the "Green Concert" with the very apropos One Sweet World followed by fan-favorite Two Step. Dave Matthews Band performed with absolute unrestrained energy at the Atlanta benefit show which raised more than $1 million to aid in the 53-acre expansion of the historic park.
Several songs will make their DVD debut on Live at Piedmont Park including The Dreaming Tree and new songs #27, Cornbread and Eh-Hee. An additional highlight includes the stop-time reworking of So Much To Say > Anyone Seen the Bridge > Too Much. Last but not least, special moments of the show included members of the show-openers, The Allman Brothers Band, joining DMB on stage. Warren Haynes performed with DMB on stage during an extended reworking of What Would You Say and another highlight included the soulful performance of The Allman Brothers Band song Melissa with Dave Matthews and Gregg Allman alternately singing the lyrics.
FROM US
The 5th full show release of 2007 is also the 5th show from 2007 to be released (Live Trax 8 was the non-2007 release, Live Trax 9 was two 2007 shows). The Piedmont Park concert marked the 5th consecutive year DMB played a major U.S. park (2003: Central Park, 2004: Golden Gate Park, 2005–2006: Randall’s Island Park). This is the first release for #27, the first full band release for Cornbread and Eh Hee. Also getting its first release is Melissa joining Sweet Caroline and Super Freak as the only songs that every version is released (though only once or twice for each). This is the first full show that includes The Dreaming Tree (Mother Father, Spoon, Let You Down & Blue Water partial are the only remaining songs that have been released only on compilations). In addition to the new Anyone Seen the Bridge, Warehouse started with a album-like intro containing different lyrics.
When the details of the bonus disc are released, we will update this post. The bonus disc will have 4 songs for CD pre-orders, 8 songs for CD/DVD combo pre-orders. Here are the 9 most commonly played songs this tour that weren’t played at this concert: The Idea of You (6th most played in 2007), Dreamgirl (10th), Everyday (12th), Crush / A Dream So Real (15th), Where Are You Going (17th), Jimi Thing / Gravedigger / Shotgun (18th). Other possible selections unique to the 2007 tour are full band Some Devil, Sweet Up and Down, Grace Is Gone » Black Water as well as various guests such as John Mayer, Danny Barnes, The Roots and Joe Lawlor.

** ORIGINALLY POSTED SEPTEMBER 2006 **
Henry Hart started this project in 2001/2002 by trying to find websites with any Minarets digests. After finding only four from the first week of November 1994, he decided to contact the original host of the digest, UVM.edu in search of a backup copy in their archives. In September of 2003 a response came from their tech department stating that their system had been updated at least five times since that time period and that nothing would be recoverable without a court order or financial backing. This past June, Henry tried it again and got a response from the Chief Information Officer (David Todd) of UVM stating that they would look into it. One month later, the good news came in the form of a MASSIVE .txt file with every Minarets post.
The DMBAlmanac staff have completed their exhaustive survey of the historical backup of the Minarets Archive and have updated the DMBAlmanac database with all information from reliable sources.

On behalf of the DMB fan community, we would like to express our deepest and sincerest gratitude to David for his efforts in coordinating the successful retrieval of the backup data, as well as a thousand pats on the backs of John Ryder and Mike Austin, of the CIT systems staff, who managed against all odds to retrieve archived data from 11 year old backup tapes (which often tend to be physcially flawed and unreadable).
We humbly encourage grateful viewers to make donations to the UVM Alumni Association acknowledging "helpful public service" of the CIT organization.
And finally a big bravo to Henry, our archivist extraordinaire, who dared to dream that the old Minarets list still existed somewhere in someone's digital attic. |

| A Milestone Show For A Milestone Release?
|
added on 9/24/2007 |
The 10th Live Trax release is from May 25, 2007 at Pavilion Atlantico in Lisbon, Portugal. For sure an interesting release in that it's unexpected, a foreign market, a second encore, a show for which no formal audience recording exists and an interesting guest in Tom Morello on #41 and American Baby Intro. Reviews of the show from both fans and the release statement from management talked of an intense crowd.
However, it’s hard to see the timing of this release as better than a disappointment. When the fan base received the 2006 Warehouse 8 Volume 3 disc, a line was crossed with material that had been released. Songs from 1993 and 1994 hadn't been released since 1993 and 1994. The quality of both recording and performance of the songs (especially Granny) had given hope and anticipation to the next Live Trax release. Fans had wondered since the band began releasing shows in 1997 how the general make up of the live release catalog would look. There were early rumors after the Live at Red Rocks release, that the next release would be a Live at the Flood Zone January 1993 release. Next on the rumor list was a Live at Holmdel Summer 1997 release. Almost a decade and twenty releases later, nothing remotely close has been released. The release comes 4 months after Live Trax 9, which is also Spring 2007, only 5 full band shows between Live Trax 9 and Live Trax 10. Comparing the two releases, the only songs that Live Trax 10 contains that Live Trax 9 doesn't are So Much To Say, Lie In Our Graves, #41, Two Step & Ants Marching. The least released of these songs is Lie In Our Graves with 9 before this release. They released Live Trax 5 which was only 5 shows from Live at Red Rocks, but they were released 8 years apart, a different series of releases and a different musical feel with no Tim Reynolds.
To be quite clear, we are not urging fans not purchase this. We haven't even heard the show. The disappointment does not come from the show selected, it comes from the timing of this choice, and the hundred or so that weren't selected. Here are a few statements from the management: "Due to overwhelming demand, 7.7 -7.8.2006 Fenway Park, Boston, MA is being offered as the sixth volume of Dave Matthews Band's Live Trax series." "Due to rave reviews and plentiful requests, the May 25, 2007 show in Lisbon, Portugal at the Pavilion Atlantico was selected for Live Trax volume 10!" What we are urging is that you order this release, enjoy it, and while you're at it, send them your "demands" and your "requests." If you want a Summer 1997 whose shelf in the archive has seemingly burned in a very localized fire (your guess is as good as ours why there has been 1 song released from this tour - Crash Into Me - 6.15.97 on the Don't Drink the Water promo), let them know. If you want that 1993 show that Granny made you yearn for, let them know. If you want another Fall 1998 release, let them know. If you want the show that took place after this particular show (5.27.07 - Brussels, Belgium), let them know. According to management, demands and requests might get you what you want released. It makes sense, they want to sell what people will buy. Flood them with what you want. We don’t care what show or tour it is, if they are taking requests into account, it’s time they started getting them. Hopefully they don’t get filtered into the Spam bin. We don’t think they will.
It would be a large oversight if we neglected to mention the change in artwork format. It is no doubt a gorgeous looking release. It's unfortunate that the format change couldn't wait until Live Trax 11 and continue until a new format change at 21, but that's being overly picky.
Of the songs themselves, Sister gets its second release (the least), Crash Into Me and Ants Marching get their 19th release (the most). No song makes its release debut.
