IMPORTANT LYRICS FILE INFO.....

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Sun Jan 22 21:19:38 1995

for those of you who just received the lyrics file in the past 24 hours,
i'm aware that it says in the header that i have halloween song, and
that you haven't gotten it yet. it's part of a new file i'm working
on called the dave matthews alternate lyrics file, which also contains
really strange versions of other songs, such as the first time granny
was played and anti-noise song.

just let me tidy it up a bit, and i'll post it for all to peruse later
this week.  k?

Seek Up
Best of What's Around
Song that Jane Likes
Dancing Nancies

Hmmmmm. Well, I don't have this show, and have never heard of this show,
BUT... this was a tour where they were still doing 2 sets a net pretty
consistently i believe, so... unless seek up is 35 minutes long, warehouse
has that uh 'special' 15 minute outro, and jimi thing had a 1 hour jam with
uh... trey anastasio and uh... heh heh... and uh forget it, a 1 hour jam with
all of phish, everything, 3 remaining members of zeppelin and the beatles,
and yeah, heh heh uh and boofy knocking out lessard and taking over on the
bass... heh heh...

okay time to slow down.

The Video in .avi format

sctm@vt.edu Mon Jan 23 00:57:14 1995

To all fellow minareters,

is a Microsoft Windows mulitmedia format. It is about 4 min and 6 seconds
long and I think 15 megs. I know it's big, but if you haven't seen it on
MTV, this could give you a taste. It's really small, and the quality is
low because I was trying to keep the megs down. I have access to all sorts
of incredible technology and I orginally recorded it with really nice
quality and it was over 100megs. So this smaller one is a little more
practical. If anyone want's it, I'll try to post it at my ftp site, or
else I can send it as an attachment via e-mail (it will probably take a
while to download!)
to see her play again, so any info is appreciated.
would be cool too.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone can send me a good/great quality tape of Dave doing Redemption
Song, Drive In, Drive Out (with the whole band! I have a couple of solo
versions), and/or A Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors from a date other than
3-23-93 . . . . . . . .

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first bagby-less (tape-less), new person (notice I didn't say newbie)
to write me and tell me a great joke (nice and clean only!) can pick from
collection as well!

I think Dave should tour with Guns n' Roses. I think that they would be
great together. And furthermore, November Rain would make an excellent
song for Dave and friends to play with GNR. Boyd's violin would
accompany Slash's beautiful melodic solos. I do feel however
that Dave should sit out and Axl carry the vocals in "Lover Lay
Down".  Call me crazy...

ps-does anyone have a copy of DMB's version of Ants Marching. I heard it

Boulder 94 Boots

TerrJS72@aol.com Mon Jan 23 03:51:04 1995

Whee ha folks!!!

OK, first off, no one and I mean no one can possibly read 7 digests all in
one compu-session, trust me, I just tried and my head's about to
x-plode!!!!!!

Just the other day, I checked the mail, lookin' and lookin', yepp, there they
are. Nice guy that Jason. I met Jason at the shows in Boulder a coupla months
back. He was taping, I was drinking. We started talking about the dmb taping
situation. Told me he was getting the shows down on tape this time. Cool, I'm
thinkin'. The show was a good one, my first. Suppose that makes me one of
them y'know, newbies. Anyway, I enjoyed myself to the point of excess. After
the show, Jason and I look over the setlist. He gives me his e-address, and
tells me to get in touch with him soon. Finally did, but break was starting
for him, so we'd have to wait to do a trade.

waiting...........

Schools back, Jason mails me, "Got those tapes for ya. Let's swap." Me not
having any dmb to swap with, Jason asks for some Dead shows. I give up a
couple shows, he gives up the 11/17 & 11/19 Fox Theatre shows. Yeah!! Anyway,
now they are here. It was nice hearing my first show again (sober this time).

~~~boy this cat's taking his time telling us he's got some new tapes~~~
So, I now have some stuff I thought others may like to get their mitts on.
boy some of those minaretters (or whatever) musta been down shoppin' at the
punctuation store ;) but that's something entirely different.
I've been lurking about here in digest world for a few weeks now, and noticed
how laid back and comfy the atmosphere is, and me liking to ramble on and on
and on and on the way I do, (in case you hadn't noticed) I figured what the
hey, jump on out there in the open and say......
HI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I suppose, this little (little?!?! Yeah right John!!) post serves two
purposes, my formal intro and a new boot announcement. Now, I don't know how
you folks 'round here like to trade, but I'd love to parlay these two shows
into mucho more (well maybe not 'mucho', no need to be greedy). I have since
picked up a few other tapes, but I guess that really is not important.
Ummm, I was talkin' about something here, anybody remember what.........
Oh yeah, those Fox shows, but now that I think about it, I guess I'm
finished. So, I suppose I'll be going now, talk to all of you
later........(don't hate me because I ramble)
john
and Jason, if you are out there, you won't recognize this email address, but
think DOA
PS-someone remind me to take out the garbage, it's starting to get _real_
ripe in here!!
The show is at the W&L Pavilion not Zollman's.  Tickets I believe will be
sold at the door (Kat correct me if I'm wrong).  From C-ville, it's 64
west, 81 South, Follow Washington and Lee University signs (exit 191 off
of 81S puts you on just 64W, then take first exit (#55)). Make a left at
the stop sign onto Rt 11S.  Follow that a mile, it'll turn into one lane
and go over a bridge, and then fork.  Fork right, which brings you into
Lexington.  At second light make a right onto Nelson Street, go through
one light and then make 4th right (just after fenced-in playing fields)
follow that road a quarter mile and you'll see cars and people milling
about.  Park there and follow the crowd.
About what Don said, my brother works at a resort in WVA and MCI was planning
on having their convention there and the person handling the money wanted to
get DMB.  My brother called up their booking agent and was told that it would
cost, get this $50,000 plus an additional 10,000 for lighting and
staging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Granted this was a "private party" and there was to be no money made from
ticket sales, but this did seem a tad steep.  And this was BEFORE UTTAD and
Dave's exponentially soaring popularity. You figure it out.
I had hoped to clarify that the Samples are NOT playing at Zollman's
pavillion, BUT they ARE playing at the W&L student pavillion (don't
worry, it'll be easier to find).  Just wanted to make sure that ya'll
Boofy's gonna go, so if you want to be cool like him, you'll go too!
Also, the Samples WILL ALLOW TAPING, so bring your goodies.  I promise
(at least on behalf of my household) that there will be merrymaking (lots
of it) before and after said show (get in touch with me for info).
So, if you'd like ticket info or directions, etc., get in tough with me
(address below) and promo posters should be out and about by the end of
this week.  We'll try to get em around to neighboring schools.  Cool??
Alright, I hope to see plenty 'o joyous people there!
Tapes...and more tapes!
Thomas_Thornton@baylor.edu Mon Jan 23 14:31:25 1995
Hello, all! I'm new to the DMB list, and would really like a tape or two of
DMB's recent shows. I went to the December show at TREES in Dallas (I drove 90
miles to get there) only to find it SOLD OUT! The machine at the club said that
there were tickets available...We really got screwed over. Anyway, I'll trade
some Clapton, Pearl Jam, BT, or REM, so mail me and I'll have more to talk about
next time. 'Take the best of what's around...' -Tom Thornton
It's 1:30pm and guess what I just saw---wwys on mtv
AMZENDEL@unca.edu Mon Jan 23 14:38:03 1995
I decided to stop by one of my friend's room and I walked in to hearing the
lead singer of the cranberries screaming "zah-ah-bie, zah-ah-bie" at the top of
her lungs. I tried to ignore and then it came....daves intro riff to wwys.  :(
I first saw the video on 12/27/94 a few hours after the atl. show.  After a
dissappointing crowd (the show was, however, great, and if anyone cn hook me up
with a tape....) the last thing I wanted to see was the video portrayal of wwys
in this manner.  Without hearing or seeing the band, I would not have noticed
the jump from zombie to wwys.  It just gave a complete false impression of what
damaba is really all about.  I too agree that the video should have been
alllllllllll live.  oh well.  I guess that all we can do is let it run it's
course and hopefully it won't pick up a bunch of people who "love dave" b/c
they are now on mtv.  I don't really mind about bands getting big, just as long
as the people who listen, listen legitimately.
Oh well, my 2 cents.  Plese don't write back and "flame me.'  Just my opinion
and if i was able to talk to the band about this, I wouldn't go off like i did,
unless they asked for my honest opinion.  This IS their music, their band,
their lives, they can do what they want with it.  Let's just hope that they
don't do this again.
At the risk of sounding stupid..
HvyHead@aol.com Mon Jan 23 14:43:57 1995
I have a few questions I would like to ask.
1) With all the merchandise DMB has,
why don't they have any patches? I think
they would sell a lot of them, and they already
have everything else, so why not? Doesn't
anybody else agree?
2) Does anybody have a good copy
of the 12/11/93 William's College show with
Route 2 on it? I would love a copy and have
lots to offer for it. (While I'm at it, anything with
Me & Julio on it and some of their older stuff
I would be interested in as well).
3) Does everybody know what the hell "spoons"
are besides me? "Send me some spoons". What
is the meaning behind it? I see it all the time
on the net, but have never heard it around here
before. Please help me out on this one.
P.S. Why don't they call a driveway a parkway
and a parkway a driveway? It omly makes sense.
Right?
  4) I have read alot of messages lately about when Peter was in the band.
        is the story behind Peter?  Was he an original member of the band?
        Why did he leave?  Was it a friendly departure?
Thanks, any info would be great.
with all the talk lately about how much a listserv this size can freak
new people out, was this really necessary?
peter griesar was an original member of the band who called it quits in
the spring of '93.  he played a keyboard, did strange things to true
reflections, and played harmonica on so much to say and some early versions
of screaming from the minarets.  precise, logical reasons for why he
quit are simply unavailable.  most of what you'll hear is either
hearsay, heresy, second hand rumors from a reliable source, or downright
wrong.  or all four.  nearest i can figure, he just didn't fell comfortable
with his postition at the point in time.
he did write a song for the band, titled people, people, which dave has
expressed an interest in recording in studio.  also, the reason we
never hear so much to say anymore is most likely because of peter's exodus,
but don't hold me to that.
tapedecks at the carpenter center on feb 14 and 15 are off limits.
but an informed source told me he heard a second hand rumor that dave's
gay, hiv+ dog was going to sneak an lp press in and get the show on
vinyl.  can't wait....
whoa i think we've all had difficulties with howling jackasses at shows
hollering gibberish at dave during slow songs, crowd surfing during intense,
dave moments and generally hindering others' perspective of shows...etc...these
people are probably the same who start dumb fucking rumors...or extend/amplify
them....about serious matters that they not of....anyway...here's my
analogy...took me all of 2 min to think up...there are a large number of
teenyboppers (not to offend young lovers of dave--in the truest sense) jackass
good ol boys, and ignorant fools who are attracted to dave's music...this is
like cartoons....you see....when we are young and stupid, we love cartoons on
one level...knee-jerk reaction....blah...blah...but when we grow...we like
cartoons for a variety of reasons...because we can still love the primal goofy
urges they inspire in us...but also cause we have a heightened awareness....or
whatever...larger forces shaping cartoons...and larger forces making us
laugh..now don't get me wrong...my tongue is embedded in my cheek in this...but
i think that some populations of dave lovers are like kids glued in front of tv,
they couldn't distinguish dave from foghorn leghorn...but others who sense the
imagination lyricism and beauty that is woven in dmb hold onto the remote and
don't dare change the channel...well im mixing metaphors/analogies and confusing
myself....and probably this is due to studytoomuchism....but i thought id
share...           now now...not that id try to monopolize dmb....well actually
i might...and im not starting an elitist club....clique...hehehehe  and im not
telling people what they should like and all...wait a second....no disclaimers
here...fuckit...some people do, some people dont    ok ok  ..
Extravaganza (fwd)
pdquinn@nyx10.cs.du.edu Mon Jan 23 19:15:12 1995
Sorry for the nondave post but I'm sure this will be of interest to more
than a few people
For anyone in the Nashville area, Extravaganza is a big 4-day long music
fest featuring signed and unsigned acts from all over the country beginning
Feb 1-4.
Wednesday Feb 1:
JP will be playing the Ryman Auditorium with Drivin' & Cryin' and Steve
Forbert for about 30-40 minutes. This is tenative so please call and make
sure. I think tix are $12.00.  6 other bands including Webb Wilder, Billy
Pilgram, and Shannon Worrell will also perform.
Thursday Feb 2:
JP will be playing at 12 & Porter around midnight. Tix are $10 gen
admission and there will only be 150 of these available to the public. They
can only be bought at the venue the night of the show.
Friday Feb 3:
Check out Jack Ingram at 9pm at Ace of Clubs - he's a good friend of ours
and he's great!
Saturday Feb 4:
Here's the daddy of 'em all at 328 Performance Hall. It's the AWARE showcase.
Ho-Hum (7pm), Catfish Jenkins (7:30), The Verve Pipe (8:20), Shannon
Worrell (9:10), From Good Homes (10), Vertical Horizon (10:50), Better Then
Ezra (11:40), Edwin McCain Band (12:30), Everything (1:20). What a great
bill! These bands are all awesome! Tix are $12 in advance, $13 with credit
card and $15 for day of show. The first 200 people to buy tix get a free
AWARE T-shirt. We'll be making an appearance at this show in some way. See
ya soon. Spread the word.
If anyone wants to be on the mailing list please call 214-696-0766. This is
also the number to order merchandise. Thanks for tapping in.
Edwin McCain, AWARE, MTV....what else?
cbuford@liberty.uc.wlu.edu Mon Jan 23 19:35:56 1995
Lesse to answer some questions...
1)Laura Le Clair.....it is WELL worth it to drive an hour for Edwin
McCain, even more actually. I'm listening to my my 760 th minute of Edwin
due to a large trade, and I still dig it! EDwin is a four (sometimes 5
with percussion) piece band, acoustic gutiar, Drums, bass and
keyboards/sax. Great groovin dancin fun tunes and slow mellow stuff too.
He coveres watchtower and Romeo and Juliet to give you a taste of the
range. While your at it you can come pick me up and take me with you...:-)
2)The video....I have yet to see, but don't some people get bored of all
live videos? I've been to enough Dave shows to see what he looks like
live, not that live shots are band. I think creativity makes a good
video. But then again, i aint seen it yet so i dont know what wacky shit
the y tossed in...
3)I have this brilliant idea....! yes....to make things easier....change
the welcome to minarets message to include the FAQ! Its got half of it
anyway....
4)The Samples at W&L..come one come all...it will be fun..and yes, you
can meet ME! wow....
5)i know there is something else but i forget after 48 messages....
Sorry to repeat but a vital piece of information was neglected. The
number for tickets to the show is (800) 333-4849. As said below it is a
great bill and anyone in the area should check this show out. The
individual bands.
so *that's* what wood looks like...
JNICHOL1@UA1VM.UA.EDU Mon Jan 23 21:51:50 1995
hello all...found me coffee...i happy again...about this kurt vonnegut guy, who
is he anyway?...some keyboardist from some long-forgotten prog rock band in the
late '70's...oh no, wait a minute, he plays bouzouki...that's it...bouzouki...
it rhymes with suzuki which rhymes with the difference between you and me...say
it three times...yeah, and grab a partner or two and say it in three-part
harmony...then growl in a napalm-death-drippy-slayer-logo-on-a-greasy-napkin
voice...like godzilla but not as musical...bouzouki...mmmmmm...and to the
lovely person who mentioned my name in her first post (wow, i think i'm in
love)...noam chomsky, as far as i know, doesn't write too many books...at least
i haven't seen one...but any self-respecting university library would have
articles that he has written for various paper publications...yup...and they're
pretty inspiring, yes they are...and about dave having aides...well, of course,
he has aides...we all do...a good example of aides are boyd, carter, stefan,
leroi, and sometimes tim...they help dave...dave helps them...the band helps us
we help the band...you see how it works?...a perfect example of karma, if you
ask me...we all need some aid sometimes...
My Boulder Boots post
TerrJS72@aol.com Tue Jan 24 00:43:51 1995
Heya friends,
It seems my post of having Boulder Boots in my hands went over better than I
had expected. I have recieved numerous requests for trades. Boy, are you
folks friendly here!! So, as I have already told one person, I have suspended
my trade offer at the current time. I have about 6-7 people I want to get
something set up with before I dig myself into a hole way too deep. So, if
you responded to me personally about the tapes, I have contacted you already.
If you sent mail to me after I posted this, then I'll send mail to you
letting you know that you are on the "Wave 2" list. So for now, this is the
best I can do. Many of ya seem very interested in the sound Dave 'n' company
get in the mountains out here. And short of tree-ing these puppies (which
doesn't seem right just yet), this is the only way I can work it out right
now.
Patience, I got, time not as much. So, I'll repost this offer, if anyone else
is interested, as soon as I get the current trades under way.
ttfn,
john
The "put it together and pull it apart" State
rhynig@aron01.jany.gs.com Tue Jan 24 10:46:13 1995
I finally (after procastinating for a couple weeks now) decided to call and get
tix for the
Hartford, CT show at Trinity College.
Check this out - the show is open... ONLY to students of Trinity College.
Is there is anyone out there who goes to Trinity College that knows the deal? Is
it the kind of thing
where they are only selling tickets to Trinity students and checking ID at the
door? If all you need
to get in is a ticket, and anyone who goes to Trinity is willing to pick me up a
few, I would be
bagby grateful. (Hmmm. maybe I could get a fake Student ID)
STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Tue Jan 24 10:46:40 1995
Here's the daddy of 'em all at 328 Performance Hall. It's the AWARE showcase.
Ho-Hum (7pm), Catfish Jenkins (7:30), The Verve Pipe (8:20), Shannon
Worrell (9:10), From Good Homes (10), Vertical Horizon (10:50), Better Then
Ezra (11:40), Edwin McCain Band (12:30), Everything (1:20). What a great
bill! These bands are all awesome!
so, these times are tentative schedule times?
last i checked, the quickest i've ever seen a band changeover is 15 minutes.
so, with one stage, this pretty much means we're going to see the aware
disc performed live.  i'd rather buy the aware disc, then work diligently
over the next year to see each band perform their own show.  eh?
with two stages, you're still talking only about a 5 song set for each band.
so basically, i'm asking what the logic behind this show is.
then again, i tend to think horde is a pretty dumb idea, too.
l_leclai@hamlet.uncg.edu Tue Jan 24 10:56:53 1995
 Lesse to answer some questions...
 1)Laura Le Clair.....it is WELL worth it to drive an hour for Edwin
 McCain, even more actually. I'm listening to my my 760 th minute of Edwin
 due to a large trade, and I still dig it! EDwin is a four (sometimes 5
 with percussion) piece band, acoustic gutiar, Drums, bass and
 keyboards/sax. Great groovin dancin fun tunes and slow mellow stuff too.
 He coveres watchtower and Romeo and Juliet to give you a taste of the
 range. While your at it you can come pick me up and take me with you...:-)
I'd come pick ya up but i think it's a teensy bit outa the way for a
wednesday night when I have to work the next morning.  Now, if it were a
weekend...
But seriously, I've gotten so many recs to go to see Edwin, I've got to
get there.  Now I just have to remember where they're playin.  Anyone
remember if it was Ziggy's or the Cradle?  Feb. 1st, anyone joining me?
Weirdness in my newbie offer-  2 of the people who got tapes from me live
within a couple blocks of where I used to live in Burlington!!  crazy
small world...
1/26 show in Burlington(JOY!)
nrich Tue Jan 24 11:08:29 1995
Greetings from the land of ice and mud!
Today is TUESDAY, which means that in just two short days Dave & Co. will
arrive here in Burlington to share much joy and dancing with us all.  My
good friend Kelly (who always reads but never posts :) ) was saying that
she heard that there is also going to be a third band playing with
DMB/BHT called the Ugly Americans.  Anybody heard anything about this?
Also, I heard that in fact BHT was going to play BEFORE DMB, so Dave
would essentially be headlining.  Could this be true?
Also, I just want to say that eveybody has just been so warm and nice
upon my arrival here.  Thanks to the sweet guy who told me not to be
nervous (sorry, I don't remember your name!)
See y'all at the show Thursday.  Hasta luego.
i guess.......(i dont care for the horde tour all that much, myself)
but, maybe it is just an everything gig with a whole bunch of opening bands..
i mean, that is stretching it, but what's wishful thinking
what bothered me was the first day (wed 01 FEB)....which said
will be playing at wherever....tix are 12 dollars.
what the fuck for?
my god.....i know it said six other bands playing, but how much shit
can you squeeze into a time frame where the headlining band plays
for 30 or 40 minutes with drivin&cryin and whoever else.....
i dont get it....
SLATCHERR@urvax.urich.edu Tue Jan 24 12:31:12 1995
Greetings All,
4 of my friends would very much like to go to the DMB/Richmond Symphony
show on the 15th of February and could not get tickets.  They really
would like to go and I was wondering if anybody has extra tix to the
show if they could please e-mail me as soon as possible-- it doesn't
matter if the seats are next to each other or not.
Thanks a lot,
apologies in the warehouse
JNICHOL1@UA1VM.UA.EDU Tue Jan 24 12:40:52 1995
ahhhh, if any of you received a post from me that seemed to be a repeat of a
post i sent earlier, i am deeply, deeply sorry...my mail is fucking up again,
keith...i have been listening to UTTAD's version of "warehouse"...over & over
again...i really like this song...very, very much...and what i have to ask all
"warehouse"?...UTTAD version included...and i guess it would probably be best
if you posted me directly...so as not to deprive the other torture subjects
(you know who the fuck you are) of the mythical "bandwidth" that seems to
permeate throughout other band's lists...i would give you a reason for why i
want to know *your* favorite "warehouse" but i am not going to tell you...once
again, i'm really sorry if any of you received that post again...have a
blissful day...
"it's not that i don't like men...just *stupid* men..."
