Supposedly (and I mean supposedly), DMB and BHT are supposed to play at the University of Florida sometime around the beginning of April. From what I hear it will be in the O'Connel Center which sits about 9,000 for a concert. There's gonna be two other bands playing as well... all for the meager price of ten bucks for UF students. Probably will cost fifteen for everyone else. Anybody else in Florida hear this ? --J HoppeTop Permalink

First of all, I will say that I do not know Matt Hamill, nor have I ever even heard of him, so I have no reason to try to protect him. Now to my point. Is not the reason that most people subscribe to Minarets.net because they WANT to talk about and hear about this greatest of all bands???? I doubt there is anybody who can dispute that. Well, then it is not Matt Hamill's fault that he got onto this net, assuming he is telling the truth about why he is here. It is the person on the program board, the brainchild who decided that the best way to get people to buy tickets and go see this concert would be to subscribe them to this sometimes overwhelming list in terms of its magnitude. Yea, and then lets get their credit card numbers and buy CD's for them and surprise them again. ANyways, you get the point. THe best thing to do is not to flame him back, but to tell him how to unsubscribe, which is what he probably wants. If you want to reflame anybody, find out the genius who subscribed all these people to the net just because they go to Dartmouth or wherever Mr. Hamill goes. Maybe a better idea for Mr. Program Board supervisor would have been to have the Minarets address on the advertisements. Anything would have been better. Its kind of like your parents buying a "nice looking" new pair of pants for you in the 3rd grade without any input from you and making you put them on to go to school while you where still sleeping. Although that would be hard, unless you sleep as soundly as me, but that's not important right now. I could tell you all the story about that, but then I'd Anyways, Mr. Hamill, if you haven't been told this already, to unsubscribe, send a message to listproc@moose.uvm.edu with the message of the body saying "unsubscribe your name" Thanks for hearing my logical reasoning, Steve whose body is in lingo because its January 12 and its 70 degrees in OhioTop Permalink
named michael j harriot from dartmouth is a subscriber to this list and that somehow I am getting things sent to me because of this because we have the same initials. I can be reached by email through mjh@dartmouth and maybe he can too. This should not happen though, I could be completely wrong. No one I have talked to you today has received anything fromn your group, however. students to this newsgroup there would be others responding to this list. This is the last you'll hear from me, you can get on with talking about the band, which IMHO, still sucks!! Ha! matt hammillTop Permalink

First off, I am new to DMB. I have both CD's, but only have 2 shows and am greatly in need of more. From what I've heard from these two shows and being a musician myself, I am already classifying and respecting DMB as one of my very favorite bands. I am hoping to set up some trades where I can get some more great DMB. If anyone is interested in trading for some BT, WSP, ABB, or a variety of other bands from U2-Hendrix please mail me and I'll send my list. I am really eager to be completely turned-on by this band and at this point can't imagine ever getting enough DMB. Thanks in advance, Phil Phil.Odella@DaytonOH.NCR.COMTop Permalink

Two Parts} 1. Dont you think that DMB would be on Letterman around the ---------- Forwarded message ---------- First of all, I'm a hotass and can write what I want where I want. I don't need some candyass to tell me what I can and cannot do. I enjoy the DMB as much as you, but what I don't enjoy is freaks writing about all the miniscule shit! I want to know when they are playing and about new albums coming out or whatever. ***If thats it then just call 804-980-9636 BUT please do be careful ***because they also tell you where they are playing, but you dont have ***to listen to that (its your right.) And dont expect a new album for at ***least nine months to 1 year. What I don't need to know is the frigging set list to when they played Pigsknuckle, Arkansas in '91 and how long their version of Christmas Song played. ***Some people do (its their right.) Another thing I don't care for is wondering why Leroi Moore played a alto sax in the album version of Ants Marching and played a tenor sax at the show in Fucking, Washington. That's a bunch of bull shit that is just wasting band width. Don't even start telling me that I'm wasting band width. I'm just pissed off at all the stupid people that write in to this net. And why do I stay on? No, it's not to piss off individuals and have them write me personally. It's because I like the band and want to find out some things, but not rip the shit together. And by the way, it's my right... Sorry if I upset you. You know I didn't want to bug you. Seriously, I don't want you or anyone else to cry any more! ***No harm done. HELLO all--- with about ten other people at the raven and crown here in LEX. He is a GOD-- it was the first time i had seen him alone and i was blown away the man can do ANYTHING with a guitar....(just listen to TR3 album "shifting currents") I've seen him with dave and it is equally amazing the two of them sound perfect together. I have never seen tim with the whole band but have a few tapes with this (the 3/8/93 floodzone show for Miquel comes to mind -the best jimi thng ever) tim adds a lot to the band.. HE SHOULD BE A MEMBER OF THE BAND -his talent is enough reason but another guitar adds a whole other dimension to the band i.e. having tim would allow for many more solos and for extended jams.. it would also add to the diversity of sounds...Tim is a master at using funky effects ..he loves to play slap and uses a waa-waa to create a real trippy sound Why isn't he in the band -rick or boofy or some other learned person (ben) is there some reason why he isn't in the band or is it just a random thing.. one final point -tim is a great artist and his music really reflects that..his name is preety well known, at least in these parts, and even so only 10-15 people wen to see him last night. I think this is because few people really appreciate art... the crowd at recent dave shows is there for other reasons not to admire an artist...I think adding EVEN MORE artistry to DMB would not only sound amazing but would also keep away some top 40 types... one more reason-- tim loves to play marly tunes like natural mystic and zimbabwe-- two great songs tjp :) "I don't do *T.J. Im just sick of seeing Dave and co have to play concerts and *PERFORM* every night, as opposed to just going out, having a good time, and if someone fucks up a song, then hell, there's much crap about "how this band was so much better when i had them all to myself" deleted because it's been heard on every listserv in the country over 69 million times (on each listserv, that is). remember what that show was like when I saw them play it...and get lot within the keyboards in Cry Freedom or the maniacal Violin in the Blue Water Baboon Farm... this gets the "i'd rather be on phish.net" award for the week ending 1-14-95. you definitely weren't at lexington, which was 11-9-94 in case you don't know. TWO months ago. where dave virtually butchered the second verse to jimi-thing. where dave band brought out not one, but two new songs, the second of which was written THAT DAY. where dave stood in front of a crowd of 5-6000 people and told them all specifically that they were scaring him "shitless." personally, i'd say your so bummed that the crowds are getting so big that you're losing touch with the fact that the band _is_ getting on stage and having a good time. not just "performing" (context?). now, to finish this off, i'd have to say that to any and all people listening that in your journies through the internet and through life, don't bitch when something you appreciate grows beyond your expectations. eventually your either going to start a flame war (argument) or some holier-than-thou asshole such as myself is going to try and put you in your place (or both). if you don't like what dave band is doing now, don't listen to it. if you don't like what dave band did then (which i suspect is highly likely [in fact, i know it is]), don't listen to it. differences of opinion are know reason to call something "shit," unless ***************************GROUP HUG******************************** there, now we all feel better, eh? ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

hey marianne a few things, i thought i was special---but now i see that fish postcards get sent everywhere...hmmmm i am not special....this hurts again....secondly, you call..yes call me last night to play dave on my machine and gloat...yes gloat that you now possess a boot from bender....i was there....yes with you....you suck......lastly, since you bitched that the recording (maybe this recording) was akin to listening to dave through starkist tuna can...tinny like your soul ;- or whatever that fuckin irony symbol is..and now again lastly....some redundancy problem here, i hear you have over 20 boots....you skimmed three for me....hmmm now i know for sure that indeed you don't love me, never have, and in your own words, probably never will....so i sit in pooling desperation, watching perspiration beads run down my sinewy sides, wondering if i can ever visit again and look upon you with trust....i am alas salami....sorry palindrome there...bored.....my guitar skills are building and when i am famous and touring, callused hands dextrous, signing autographs for screaming nancies, i will not remember your last name, or your brother,,, well actually how can i forget your brother...are we there yet???? pow! so if you are only going to gloat, don't call....even the tinny sounds of seek up jam crazy wailing....punctuated with guitar chords, violin slanting crazily at angles only i can fathom.....i can't stand it....love, in an abstract way, ericTop Permalink
Hello Boys & Girls, I have a question, In the FAQ file, it mentions what everyone in the band was doing musically before the DMB was formed. That is, everyone except Dave. So, here's my question - does anyone know if and which band Dave was in before this one? Do any tapes exist of Dave pre-DMB? Also, while I'm here - I've been having these random thoughts about how big 1. Casio markets the Dave Matthews Band calculator? 2. They get invited to the White House and Bill sits in for Leroi? 3. I'll turn on the Galavision and see the the WWYS video 4. The best song to find stephans prominence is a song on 10/27/92 at Trax. Dave says right before it "Stpehan's tune?" to the band (you have to crank it to hear it) and its an incerdible jam biult around stephans bass work... its on the raritites tape that I am almost finished with..and will be treed soon.... *-----------------------------------------------------------------------* |Chris "Boofy" Buford '96 | |P.O.Box 322 Coming Soon! Just to let people know how big dmb has become, over the recent holiday break I heard WWYS on the radio on the beach in Honolulu. I was totally shocked. Then today I opened my BMG catalog and there is UTTAD in the new bands section with BHT. Whether people like it or not, dmb has arrived. -Simeon this has been mentioned a couple of times. but it's really not that much of a sign of their imminent success. bmg makes (as in recorded, produced, pressed, and sold/sells) under the table and dreaming. seems logical they would put it in they're mail order catalog. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

I was looking through the chords file yesterday and noticed there was no True Reflections, so to help complete that file I tried to figure it out. I was using old copies of the song, so Peter often made it hard hear what Dave was playing, so the accuracy may be off. Just play with the song and find an arrangement to your liking... Did you ever notice that line in Jimi Hendrix's song Castles Made of Sand, She drew her wheelchair to the edge of the shore, And through her legs she smiled, "you won't hurt me no more", But then a shight she'd never seen before made her jump and say, "Look a golden winged ship is passin' my way... And it really didn't have to stop, It just kept on goin'... I know it's kinda depressing, but I really like the line before this, And she wished and prayed that she could stop livin'... so she decided to die... that just seems so powerful... Anyway, anyone got any clever interpretation of the last two lines of the first section that I put up there...I'm just curious about it...I know this has nothing WHATSOEVER to do with DMB, but there are a few folks on the net that I am sure can give me some creative insight...thanks. BTW, did you ever notice that there are a lot of negative people in the world. I think the weather here in Atlanta has got me in some sort of depressed mood...but I have really noticed the negative aspects of several folks around me who don't normally seem that negative...weird. I'm not trying to down anyone, actually, I just want some jelly beans... sadly though, I have no money...Oh, I wish I had some jelly beans... what's a pooh to do without his honey? Claire, if you have any extra spoons, send em' my way (not all of them, mind you...others need them, too). Hey, guys, try to get your hands on a copy of "Life After God" by Douglas Coupland...it's a really cool book...about life...and how we live it. I just finished reading it...I can only say...WOW...pretty moving book. D. Coupland is the guy who wrote the book Generation X that inspired the name of this generation that most of us belong to (according to the earlier age survey). He also wrote a pretty cool piece of fiction...Shampoo Planet that I am about half way through...it's groovy, too. Reading, 'riting, and debating on the topic of 'rithmatic... ShugTop Permalink

"The few people that I met on the other side of the wall that apartheid put up were always an inspiration," he says. "They celebrated being alive so much more vigorously than their oppressors who had everything. These people had nothing, but they knew the value of the human spirit. About once a year, I get this yearning to go back to Africa. The pace is much slower. I just go out into the bush and walk -- really slowly." ******************************************************************************* now of course, with the fact that Leroi, Stefan, Boyd, and Carter were *not* mentioned, and the inclusion of all sorts of money-related facts, what do you guys think?...that is it for now, kids, friends, and neighbors...pleasant dreams...Top Permalink
I'm new to this whole minarets deal, and this is my first post. I was wondering if tapes of a 1/06/94 show with the Samples at Vail, CO, or a 5/14/94 show with BHT in Denver, CO, existed. Vail was my first DMB show, and I would love to get a tape of it and the Samples if possible since Boyd joined them for a couple songs. I'm a newbie, and although I will hopefully be getting my first tapes in a little while, I don't really have anything to trade. However, I would definitely be willing to send blanks and what not to any kind soul out there who could help me out, if the tapes even exist. Thanks for any help. Pending the finishing of final exams (weird schedule) and a week off away from the internet, I do indeed intend to resume the occasional series called minarets-history. keith -Ben ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------Top Permalink

sorry to post a personal message to the net, but erik, i got your tape and it is finished, but i kind of magled your return address on the envelope when opening it and it wasn't on the note inside. i'll drop it in the mail once i get your address. while i'm at it, when sending someone tapes try to always write a little note which includes your return address & probably email also. i know i sometimes recycle my envelopes before i can write to addresses down. gray -- It's ok to close your eyes, as long as you can still see the sunTop Permalink

the iron oxidized arms of life [rusted root to the unrooted ilk] will be playing in hampton, va the 26th, wash, dc, the 27th, and richmond, va the 28th. anyone else planning on going to these? possibly people with mics I could leech from if I bring a deck? last time they did a solo show in va it was free at randolph macon in ashland, va. we'll not be so lucky this time, but it's not something to pass up. love is a cliche, brett the dave shows, don't miss 'em again. -- you don't have to worry about me i might have been born yesterday but i stayed up all nightTop Permalink
in case any of you were wondering, my little game of mystery tape theater (tm) was answered by the one and only hippie-lover-mc chardy. 5/13/92, though i don't know if he knows the venue since my mail is so fucked up that the only three things i get are mail from minarets, phish.net, and other people on aol... bleh bleh bleh. thankfully i won't have to deal with this much longer but more on that later. i think someone should arrest keith for abuse of periods. heh heh his posts remind of this hyperactive guy i know who is on more ridlin (or however you spell it) than anyone should be. marianne and other roseland-concert-going-types... please please please lets find out when tickets go on sale. HoB in new orleans sold out in two days, and no offense to that fine fine southern city which i've never been to, but nyc is a muuuuuch bigger market. i mean who expected roseland to be sold out LAST time?? gosh it's all so frightening and sad and exciting. bonus points to anyone who can tell me what song, album, and band the subject is from... and chardy never said if he was down with our little cancerband... but then again neither did emily... everyone go see higher learning and get the soundtrack... and while you're at the bookstore getting the celestine prophecy or whatever it's called, buy some poetry... plath or ferlinghetti being the preferred choices... ben just another memo from the cellar, ************************************************************************Top Permalink
i know this is a kinda hefty request, but is there anybody out there who could either let me know how to get, or even better send me, the chords to everything. will send tapes or whatever in return.....thanks....Top Permalink
