The Mabel Shaw Bridges Music Auditorium is the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Appleton Shaw Bridges as a memorial to their daughter, who died in 1907 while a student at Pomona College. When it was built in 1931 at a cost of $600,000 it provided seating for some 2500 persons. The auditorium opened in 1932 with Artur Rodzinski conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
