(DMB and the Roots: 35th Annual NAACP Image Awards)
Founded during a meeting in the home of Sammy Davis, Jr. (a member of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood Branch of our nation’s oldest civil rights organization), the NAACP Image Awards honors projects and individuals who have demonstrated exemplary works by and for people of color. Honorees, presenters and performers have included many of the major celebrities in America as well as International political figures and dignitaries. There are 35 competitive categories in the fields of motion picture, television, music and literature. There are several honorary awards including the President’s Award, the Chairman’s Award (which DMB recieved at this event), Entertainer of the Year and The Image Award Hall of Fame. The program originally aired for eight years in the “Saturday Night Live” time slot on the NBC Network. Since 1996, the Image Awards moved to a primetime broadcast on the FOX network where it remains a major programming event.

Stefan missed this show because of the birth of his daughter that morning.

The actual performance was longer than what was aired on TV, but since that is the only known recording, the times given here reflect the aired version.
