Matthews / Ballard (2001)

This famous song evolved from #36 during the studio sessions for Everyday. Its lyrics partially appeared live as an interpolation in #41 during the Fall 2000 tour.

During its first live appearances in the Summer 2001 tour, the song almost immediately drew from its #36 influences; specifically the "Honey, Honey / Come and dance with me" lines. On 5.26.01, the audience shocked the band by chanting the same lines during the show's closer and throughout the encore break. This historic event started a trend of audience participation in the song. Throughout the rest of 2001 and 2002, Dave began resurrecting scatting as well as old lines from #36 developing what is known as the #36 reprise.
During Fall of 2002, the audience chants became commonplace as the song was one of the top 5 songs to appear in the encore.
