Matthews (2003)

This song has almost always been played by Dave solo on the baritone electric guitar he began using during the Everyday sessions. In August 2007, however, the band played the song three times with full instrumentation before the song returned to its normal arrangement, with a single exception: the 7.21.10 version, which also featured Carter and Tim.

The lyrics possibly allude to a line from Brutus in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: "Art thou some god, some angel, or some devil, / That mak'st my blood cold and my hair to stare?" (IV.iii.321–2).
