Re: re:Dave Sightings

fad4y@uva.pcmail.virginia.edu Tue Feb 7 21:48:22 1995

Some of these may be old, but I've been away awhile so here goes...

Dave sighting number 1... Over Christmas I was up in New York and I
saw a
commercial for the Wiz (a cross between Circuit City and Blockbuster
Music). They were advertising UTTAD and showing a clip of Tripping
Billies. They showed about 30 seconds of it. I was nly able to here
bits
and pieces of the song because of the voice over plugging the album.
Has
  anybody seen the entire video?

There is a video to Tripping Billies too??? !!! ???

i believe this was probably just the promotional video that they did a
while back... tanen maybe knows more about this than i do... anyway,
whoever saw it... it was all live, right? then it was probably the
promo.

When i was home over break, the small record store I had order R2T about a
year and a half ago said that they had received the video and asked if I
wanted it. Now I have it. It is tripping billies live with a little dave
talk in the beginning and a little watchtower.

I don't know
but i think that the video may have been filmed
at a free show at Towne Pointe Park in Norfolk, VA
I was there and they were filming the whole show
i mean they had extensive amounts of video equipment
after the show i talked to the guys in the band
and i can't remember which one i asked
but i think it was carter
but i asked which song the video was for
and he said that they hadn't decided yet
maybe it's along shot
but it could be possible

muezzin comments

jk2z@kelvin.seas.virginia.edu Tue Feb 7 22:11:29 1995

Hey all,

Lurking is so much easier. Here goes. Here are some random
comments I have accumulated over the last couple days, weeks,
months.

least that is what the band led me to believe...through a bagby
of course. I know no others dates, so i'll move on.

of a show has to be Strawberry Banks. Two Step rocked, into
BOWA. Wow. Sigh.

day out its awesome, and even now, i get chills just thinking
about it.

Maybe it was the fact i was fishing all day, dehydrated,
discussing the prospect of each member's capacity as a
fisherman, but that is another story.

appeared, or never was.

in Time, and asks locals to discuss the C'ville music scene.
According to quotes in the article, there is no C'ville sound,
just a bunch of them.

have not posted in 4 1/2 months.

stefan has been playing something basslike for a long time...

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Tue Feb 7 23:26:49 1995

In the FAQ, it says Steffan played a classical upright bass, but
in all the interviews I've seen and heard, Dave always says something like
Steffan had only been playing bass for a year. So the question is, is the
FAQ wrong? is Dave wrong? or are both right? or did I read the FAQ wrong
and make all this up? I guess Dave could just mean that Steffan had only
been playing electric bass?

electric bass and upright classical are definitely two different things.
for one thing, uprights don't even have frets, so i'd say that the comment
"stefan has only been playing bass for about a year [at least five years
at this point]" perfectly valid.

You know what would be cool? Minarets would love it f someone their
in Charlottesville would march down to Coran Capshaw's little office deal
and ask where we could get a copy of the Tripping Billies video, being
Dave's manager (maybe ex-manager, I don't know?) he could probably point us
in the right direction unless he's a jerk. That would be cool. Side note,
is Bama Rags dave's own label? Like he personally started it? Is anyone
else on it?

coran is a jerk.

well, not really. i don't know him well enough to be able to really
say. but of all the roadies, managers, and band members i met during
the fall of '93 just before dave broke his own mold, coran is far
and away the most difficult one to get close to. literally. he's
a big guy with a thick head of hair and these really hard eyes that
kind of say "don't fuck with me. just because i'm the band's manager
doesn't mean i want to talk to you."
so pretty much, you just keep your distance. most people i've talked
to who've met him aren't all that fond of him.

Stop Virginia Fascism (no ODC)

jeg5s@faraday.clas.virginia.edu Wed Feb 8 00:34:48 1995

sorry for the bandwidth.. just slipping in a little off-topic bit
of importance since so many of us are in virginia.

call Virginia state legislators on their toll-free comment line

SB 790: seeds and stems included in marijuana weight (ACK!)
SB 524: 10-year mandatory minimum for bringing drugs
SB 69: ends first-offender program
HB 529: penalty for purchase of drugs in pubic
HB 1550: class 6 felony for being in possession of a
HB 1551: lowers kingpin threshold from 500 kilos to *10* kilos!
SB 634: like HB 1551 but even scarier!
HB 1449: expands current provision similar to HB 1550
HB 2466: forfeiture of vehicles and money for drug sale
HB 1375: raises penaltiy for selling or giving drugs

Also, of national importance, write to the U.S. Sentencing
Commission (at One Columbus Circle NE, Suite 2-500 South
Lobby, Washington DC, 20002-8002) and urge them to change
the weight assigned to a marijuana plant from 1000 grams
to 100 grams, and to make this change retroactive to all
federal sentences within the past ten years.

To be even more vocal, come to the Hempfest, Sunday, May
14th, for fun music and information at Byrd park in
Richmond, from noon to 6 pm. And/or get in contact with
Virginia B.A.C.H, RR1, Box 2142, Crewe, VA, 23930; (804)
645-1038. If you can send them any change, they're doing
*really* wonderful things and could really use the help
paying postage and getting those calls out!

TREE Announcement: TR3 (Tim Reynolds trio), 180min

jeg5s@faraday.clas.virginia.edu Wed Feb 8 00:35:08 1995

Bound to be Charlottesville Virginia's next claim to fame.
Strong local influence on members of Dave Matthews Band.
Sometimes co-performers with DMB, Dave solo, & Shannon Worrell.

It's Indian/Eqyptian Funkified Jazz with Byrnesque sympathy.
It's ultra groovy, mindblowing, invigorating, and addictive.
Sometimes slow and driving, often frantically gorgeous.

Saw Tim wail with ARU a few phridays ago and had to do this.

I'm treeing all I have; don't know of any other TR3 boots.
If you're not sure, please trust me and bite;

Setlists will be posted with the tree structure;
if you know their tunes, the best are there;
if you don't know them, wouldn't help you much, huh?

There are two shows, each on one tape (2 tapes total):

I'll run DAT branches *if* some DAT leaves can dub to analog.

Clip this bottom section (below dotted line),
fill it out,
and return to jeg5s@faraday.clas.virginia.edu
with "TR3 TREE" in subject heading.

---- clip here ----

state (or country, if not US):
--if trade, leaf or parent?
----if parent, analog or dat?:
-------if analog, what decks?
-------if dat, can you dub to analog?
----if parent, can you add dolby?
-------if can add dolby, which (A, B, or C?)
--if blanks, buy them and postage *now*
dolby or no dolby?
--if dolby, which (A, B, or C?)

----- end here -----

Thanks; you won't regret it.
All requests must be dated before February 28th at midnight.

Cya, and keep smiling....
Ellis (of Lemuria)

P.S. Lemuria Housing Project still needs help. Interview Tapes
Tree will be announced within an hour. 12-89 tree (with first
Rift) will start within a week. And, look for big hot
out-of-state music to Blitz through Virginia this September...
more on that later.

ok...im sitting in my roomates room playing risk on his Mac because we
have this world domination complex and must attempt to beat each other in
Risk daily... and i hear the opening note as my other roomate walks by
the door "oh yeah, the dave video is on..." like nonchalantly....so i go
HAULING ass out of the room to the living room and see daves face in
white with polka dots and such wierdness.....lerois face coming out of a
BOX! whaddafuck....wierd is all i have to say...wierd....i might have to
start taking drugs again to watch it next time...no seriously...

i diged the live shots though, like from the end of stefans bass and
such...course it always seems like carter is sitting at his set in a big
black room by himself....anyway....the lips twizzler ad part was funny
also...

i have decided never to take on a rarities idea again....there too many
good versions of halloween and such but its gonna be out soon.....

Scott, im comin to see Catfish...yeah.....im so stoked i get to see them
3 times in 5 days.....or something like that.....

wheee. i wana be a professional taper video type guy....here's why...

at the samples i got to hang out way early, watchem set up and stuff, set
up my tpae deck and videocamera (yes its IN their contract, how cool,
maybe dave should sign with W.A.R)
anyway, all day before the concert, the video light dude when around
campus and town with a video camera (no one really knew this). They had
this killer video projector, and during one song they played this cool
video they had edited togethor of W&L and lexington...its cool as shit to
see a cool band playing a cool song in front of a video of your
school/town...

i wanna be that guy....

one day i WILL be catfish jenkins sound guy or something, i figure they
get big right when i graduate...

decided that it's all probablly over after the Feb 14 and 15 shows. Again,
with any luck DMB will have there time in fame and then drift back down to

ass shows they put on for a while.
They will be totally original, and when they are done it will be back to

	1) As for band members b'days, Carter's is 6/22, or at
least that is what the band led me to believe...through a bagby
of course. I know no others dates, so i'll move on.

this is probably wrong. i was at the 11/2/93 show where they
celebrated carter's b-day. aside from making a really big deal
about it, they brought carter balloons and stefan got so fucked up
that he never realized during the entire show that his bass was
out of tune with the band. kind of makes the bagby suck, but
the show was great at the time.

leroi's is 9-7, and when i saw them at trax on that day, they
did this completely wacked out ugly jam thing.

	3) What ever happened to digest 47, it just never
appeared, or never was.

it's not peter's last show, but it is his last show at trax. i believe
he played flood zone the next night and some other show that weekend,
and that was the end for him. i would send you a copy myself, but
i still owe three bagbys to other people and don't have my own decks

After reading the recent setlists and all the talk about MTV I've
decided that it's all probablly over after the Feb 14 and 15 shows. Again,
with any luck DMB will have there time in fame and then drift back down to
us folk, but the way it looks now these Symphony shows will be the last kick
ass shows they put on for a while.

i've made some predictions about these shows, but i'm not terribly sure
i'm ready to share them with the world. but jeff peters will back me
up if they come true.

They will be totally original, and when they are done it will be back to
what I'm seeing now, short as hell shows and setlists right off the
albums... But hey, what can you do? (maybe I'm just being pesimistic, but I

                                                Fred House

i think right now the problem is dave's pace is faster than he can handle.
people like him, and he doesn't know what to do about it. so he's having
fun. but eventually, he's gonna get just as bored as we are, and either
start doing new, interesting things, or quit. until then i'm just going
to patiently wait and see what happens, and more or less not worry
about it.

Hey Boofy,
I'm surprised, you failed to mention that part in the video with the
girl. Remember????? I think Mike and you agreed that she was "hot as
balls" or something like that. Hehhehheh Anyway, yes, Boofy was the
master media technician at the Samples show. Maybe Bobby the road
manager will get you a job! Thank you Boof and Shawn (coming all the way
from UVA) for your "help" before the show. Just for all those out there-
try and be part of the next show that comes to your school. I dunno, set
up or something, but if you get a cool job like I had, it was to be a
runner (glorified gopher) for the band. Woohooo, at least they all know
my name now (from yelling for me to take 'em somewhere). I know, it's
sad, but it WAS the PINNACLE of my week. What a rush! It's just too
wierd driving around town with the Samples. Oh yes, and my friend Mike
did get to tell Al the cool places to go mountain biking in the mud! he
he I mean, it's too wierd to have Sean sittin' in the front seat asking
me if he should play "Little Silver Ring" before "Nothing Lasts", I mean,
he wanted to know if we dig that song. Of course, me, who would dig 'em
if they played Bon Jovi hits (well, maybe not) was like, "Uh...huh, huh,
uh, yeah.....that'll be cool." Whoah...um, that sounds good to me!
playing in the car) that Jeep and Andy from the Samples were asking who
was playing and where he was from and all-they thought it sounded a bit
Davish with the sax. Sean was the only one who remembered playing with
But they were definitely great guys, the whole crew and all.
Later on fellas and fellitas!

A very, very, happy, ready to go see Catfish on Thurs., and fly to Vail
on Fri., woohoo!, joyous goodbye from,

Dave on dave. I had a really strange dream about this occurrance about 6
months ago actually. I was there with the choir from my old high school
(which I was NEVER in) and dave came out dressed as a woman (a very good
looking woman, for that matter...sorta Carmen Miranda meets Ru Paul thing)

ANYWAY.

Here's some really wonderful news, that even if y'all DON'T know me from
Eve, I'm going to shout out anyway. I'M IN REMISSION!! I'M IN
REMISSION! I'M IN REMISSION! I'M IN REMISSION! This has a slight DMB
content, so bear with the story. I have an interconnective tissue
disease in which, basically, my body tries to get rid of my joint
tissue, a bizarre rhematoid condition. Anyway, I went to the doctor last
week, the test came back, and my AN-RNA levels are down, which means the
pain is going away too. To link this to DMB, I was at their show over in
Raleigh at the Ritz back last spring, and I had a really bad attack.
Anyone who went may have been accosted by a very upset girl (me) begging
for aspirin (only thing that cuts through the pain). Anyway, Carter

Smith show

jogriffith@vaxsar.vassar.edu Wed Feb 8 12:26:52 1995

Seek Up
Dancing Nancies
Lie in Our Graves
Rhyme & Reason
(kick butt drum solo)
Christmas Song
Minarets
Satellite
???
Ants Marching
All Along the Watchtower
Tripping Billies
Recently (w/Norweigian Wood intro)

Well, this is was my first DMB show. I saw Dave acoustic between BT sets
once but that doesnt count...

I must admit that I should have seen the band a long time ago...for as long
as I have liked R2T I should have eperienced them live!

I can see how amazing the band would be in a really tiny club...but they
were amazing in this 1-2,000 (?) auditorium. What charisma!

What do people think of the set list? I thought it wasnt as standard as it
could have been...it certainly wasn't just UTTAD...

Adam--what did you think? Except for some tweaked frat boys (sorry) the
crowd was very cool and respectful. The teenage girls acting out "look up"
"look down" "look all around" was way annoying.

All I want to say to the loyal Minarets crew is that I really came to love
DMB after UTTAD was released....i now like R2T more...but i think that is
because the new album was good enough to let me want to give the band some
room to jam.

However, I think R2T stinks compared to the live show!

Well,

Please comment on the show if you were there...I would love for Dave to
become more popular through this tour and then return to smaller shows....I
am at least one fan who understands Dave (and Loves his pants!!!) and the
band (sorry not to refer to them all individually i have to run to
class...) mainly because of their new popularity....however.....I dont
consider myself a "pop fan"

Anyone can shed some light on what Bagbys are?

I have @ 60 hrs BT, 15 hrs DMB to trade if anyone is interested.

p.s. I am a senior at Vassar double majoring in history and film. I also
work in the admissions office and do other cool stuff

ok
i'm starting to get worried about this weekend.
i'm going to the two Tower shows AND the Penn show, and i do NOT want to
hear the same songs all three nights.

these setlists sound like someone at RCA wrote them.
what happened to the Two Steps?
the Grannys?
the Blue Waters?
incidentally, my friend and i talked to Dave about bringing back Blue
Water, and he said, "Ah, yeah. I like that one... maybe just me and
Boyd..." i wish.

am i doomed to a weekend of BMG repeats?

Come and Dance With Me?

I received a tape that was not labeled (11/14/94 set II), and the third
song has a chorus of 'Come and Dance with me' and I was wondering what
the name of this tune is.

the smith show

CJACOBS@smith.smith.edu Wed Feb 8 14:25:46 1995

christmas song was not played, but say goodbye and two step was. and no one
knew the words. so it was cool and we could sing quietly.
i'd have to agree that the crowd was VERY respectful and didn't push me
around like at lupo's. but, woah, when satellite came on, a thousand
screaming women...what's up with that?
i was pleased. so was liz. she's here next to me. has anyone noticed dave's
new shoes? they're kinda cool. wondering where i can get a pair...sort of
a cross between bowling shoes and doc martens with a bit of a circus theme...
i have to agree with the person that said after the valentine's shows things
may be, well, a little different. i'm not sure why but it sure feels that way.
oooh, and ugly americans had a bit of a problem...in the middle of their set
the power went off and all you could hear was the drummer so then the drummer
from bht played drums with him while bob, the frontman, tossed slices of
whole wheat bread and candy hearts into the audience. i would think a
muscician's worst nightmare and it lasted for a pretty long time but they
were graceful about it. got 'em off quicker, though. can't complain about
that.
i'm sad. and i don't know why. the show was phenomenal. really, really
different. and long. dave didn't tlak too much, though, except for thank you
thank you very much. he's very good at the charleston, have you noticed?

any other comments would be greatly appreciated,
carly

Dave Matthews is a good singer.
He plays a musical instrument called the guitar.
He has hair, feet and arms and legs.
Sometimes, he uses them.
He has a tongue. The sensory receptors on his tongue enable him to
taste. The motor receptors throughout his body enable him to move his
muscles.
Boyd is black.
He plays the violin.
He has really big and funny teeth.
Leroi is quiet.
He doesn't sing
Stefan Lesard has a neat name
Carter plays drums.
He has ears and a nose.
When he gets the flu, he is sick.
Carter masturbates occasionally.
The Dave Matthews Band is really good.
I hope everyone will listen to them.
Now, I am going to take a shit.

oh their is a cult following to this line now....at benderI saw the most
amazing intricate dances (sarcasm intended) to this infamous boppy
line....it included spinning around and such.....it was soooo amusing....
when you hear this song, look around for this, since you dont need to

My Dave dream almost came true last night!

icculus@student.umass.edu Wed Feb 8 15:14:53 1995

I had this dream a couple of days ago about the 2/7 show. In the dream I was
chanting for Dave to play Two Step when he called me up on stage and handed me
his extra SST and we jammed our balls off! Well, last night I was trying to
make that dream come true. He did hear me screaming for Two Step...he did
play Two Step, but he forget to pull me up on stage. Oh well, maybe next time!
Anyways, a very hot show to say the least. Some of my favorites were
Dancing Nancies, Lie in Our Graves, Watchtower, and of course Two Step.
pretty, pretty girl,

Well, I don't know for sure, but I have a tape from 12-9-92 at the
Floodzone where Dave is advertising the NYE show, except he says it's
gonna be at the Omni. This is a direct quote. Plus it was gonna
cost $30. I don't know too terribly much about Richmond geography
(which is a shame since I live only 2 hours from there), so it
could be the Omni and the Jefferson are the same place, but if not,
I think it would be the Omni, eh?

i thought it was at some place called the omni. but i dunno. i just
remember on some 92 tape he plugs a 'huge huge party' (probably not much of
an exaggeration) at some omni place on nyew years. brrrr i'm cold

and................ the cancerband is moving along at a rapid rapid rate!
we venture our first gig will be somewhere around august of 97... maybe
early 98........... and we've already got a big ass setlist (i'm talking at
LEAST 3 or 4 songs here!)... currently, since we don't have a warehouse
(YET...YET...) for cancerband, clare's arm will be the setlist file. she
promised not to wash her left arm until the show (which again, is
tentatively 8/97). so cliffords left arm is the cancerband setlist file
for now...

any rate, carter pretty much rocks, (a tribute to the
great jazz drummers everywhere) and the ride set up over
the hats is a stroke of genius. i tried it myself while

Could I have been a Muezzin on thorazin?

KULPK@tiger.hsc.edu Wed Feb 8 19:18:27 1995

NYE that particular year was at the Omni, most definately. Nice place to stay,
shitty place to play.

Is that sweet li'l jam in the middle of "Recently" 7/7/93 done with the Chapman
stick? That's a pretty dumb question, what else would it be.

Boofy, I remember what else I had to say! Yes I do miss Dave's solo openers,
although most of my shoiws in the early days were spent in a drunken haze.:(
Unfortunately in the early days I was one of the drunken assholes so openly
despised on this net.

"Hello, my name is Kev. I'm a recovering asshole"
-"HI KEV!!!"
"It's been 15 months since my last drunken outburst at a DMB show."
-"WE'RE PROUD OF YOU KEV!!!"

The more I think abnout the 8/13/94 Two-step opener the more I want to go
listen to it. I think I will.

"And when the doctor said that I didn't have worms anymore, that was the
happiest day of my life!"

familiar song but i have heard so much- it could be something that i have
heard him experament with before. (Set 2)
It is labled "Talk To Me" on the case - but is that the name of the song?

The song in question is known simply as "jam". And always seems to come as
an intro to Halloween. I picked the title "Talk to Me" as a guess based on
some of the lyrics I could understand - besides he was making them up as he
went along. We asked Jeff a few nights later and he said it didn't have a
title that he knew of, so we asked Dave a few weeks later in Houston and he
said "Oh, the jam before Halloween..." And on any setlists that I've seen
it on it is simply labeled "Jam".

  Adios,

lie in our graves?

Seek Up
Dancing Nancies
***Lie in Our Graves****
Rhyme & Reason
(kick butt drum solo)
Christmas Song
Minarets
Satellite
???
Ants Marching
All Along the Watchtower
Tripping Billies
Recently (w/Norweigian Wood intro)

What do people think of the set list? I thought it wasnt as standard as it
could have been...it certainly wasn't just UTTAD...

you just gotta know what to look for in a dave matthews setlist. dave
band isn't a band that sits back in their break room b/w sets (if they
had a "between sets") and practices songs they haven't done in a while
(which is what phish does), so you're not going to hear rarities every
night. but all of a sudden, they sneak a song in you haven't seen in
a god awful long time, and it just kind a quirks you in that weird
kind of way that a quirk can quirk you, right?

Anyone can shed some light on what Bagbys are?

any live dave matthews show. this is in the faq.
hey, from now on, any time someone asks a question that's in the faq, don't
get upset. just politely say "it's in the faq" and you'll feel better.
it works. trust me. in a way it makes people look stupid, in a way
it doesn't.

damn, i just a true revelation from god...

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Wed Feb 8 20:12:43 1995

New Year's Eve
ok it was the Omni in 92 at $30
Marriot in 93 at ?? (maybe 45?)
$40. get your facts straight, boy...

my bet for 95 is Mosque maybe, if its still in richmond, at $65 a head if
not more
the idea is to be able to go upstairs and crash. unless you're a student
at vcu living in johnson hall, you can't do that from the mosque. there's
nothing even convenient to the mosque in terms of hotels.

and on a completely different note....

as far as the symphony shows go next week, we all need to assume that
the symphony is practicing its balls off. what if.....now get this...
what if.......whoa, this is too much....just thinking about it makes
my ding go crazy......

what if...........................................................

well, the song i'm thinking is warehouse.....

what if they're practicing to the election night version......

i'm an official?

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Wed Feb 8 20:21:20 1995

ok.
this song has officaially been dubbed
'justajam'
all one word. no caps.
i'm not sure quite howit got to be that..
but i do remember being one of the people saying..
'no caps.. one word'
chardy.. didn't you play a role in this?
rick? boofy? i think it was lexington on 11.9 that we did this..

"officaially?" i'm not an officaial. the only officaial word
comes from bagby. not even dave is officaial. he doesn't know
or care. he just wants to play music, get rich, get laid, and
sleep. so when bagby tells us it's justajam, then it's justajam.

perhaps he did tell someone that it was just a jam, but that
doesn't make it officaial, either. he needs to tell us it's
justajam. that would make it officaial. i'm hungry.

come on man, i really NEED it..
she said.

(sorry...:)

rick.. tell the kids to eat some play-doh and melt some sillly putty.

i don't think they know how to melt sillly putty. but they know how
to eat play-doh. i think i'll go join them....

Does anyone have a copy of the 11/8/94 at Lisner!?! Puh-leez!! I know someone
does, I saved the post, I'm _NOT_ nutso!

I'm also looking for (still) any info concerning a show at Randolph-Macon
Womans College, march/april 1993. This was a very important show for me,
puh-leez!!!!!!

Tiffany Amber-Thiessan had to have had a boob-job, nothing ripens that much
overnight!

I _will_ be at the Brady Bunch movie!!!

Could someone please send me the complete setlist, in order, for the 11/17/92
show, I don't think I have the entire show.

Will someone explain to me how a parapelegic (ie 90210) can have sex with
Kelly. Is it physically possible?

Is there anybody out there who will be taping the Blue Miracle show at the
Irish Brigade in Fredericksburg this weekend? Please get in touch with me if
you are.

I love peach incense!!!!!!!! -Finally, something in my post that actually
relates to my subject header!!!

P.S.-Please forgive me for the "!!!!!!", oh, and ignore the "Brandon' c" at the
end of my post.

FUCKING ARGH!!!!!

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Wed Feb 8 20:38:31 1995

i like everything, and i like fighting gravity even more (a whole lot
more as a matter of fact), BUT WHY DO SKA BANDS HAVE TO HAVE GRATUITOUS
SONGS ABOUT GETTING LAID IN REALLY DISRESPECTFUL WAYS?

if your a feminist, go listen carefully to go ugly early by fighting
gravity and tell me you don't get pissed. NOT. that song is so
sick.

but right now i have moan and groan stuck in my head.

"up and down, in and out, round and round, side to side, the bitch
takes me for a ride."

i realize these songs have an audience, but i'm not in that audience.
SO WHY HAS THAT SONG BEEN STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR THREE DAYS????????????

GRRR.

"i want that skinny (waa waa) little (waa waa) white butt of yours...."
"butt of yours....."

stuck in my head, too.

Rick.....I _really_ didn't need to know that!

V-day, Seek Up, that's the one. That's the musical orgasm that will transcend
all reality.

Jade sucks!

DaMaBa should do a telethon. I'd put up with Jerry Lewis for that.

A friend of mine goes to Longwood and her music instructer is in the Symphony.
Anyway, I'm going to try to get the setlist...sealed of course, so the contents
will not be exposed until midnight when Dave turns into a pumpkin and flies
away into the night air. hahahaha!!!!

Seek Up-Blue water-Minarets.....2/14....mark my words. It will happen.

Billy Ocean will cover "Recently"

Gene Dixon wil predict her shoe size.

A copy of the manuscript will actually be discovered in Peru.

I will graduate from college in 1999.....7 years, not bad.

Allen Iverson will learn to spell his name.

The largest world religion will be the cult of Jeff (Muezzin-ism).

I will end this post.

Smith show :)

<@uvmvm.uvm.edu:SLB94004@UCONNVM.UCONN.EDU> Wed Feb 8 21:44:28 1995

Hey!
not know how to do that thing. Anyways, I went to that show last night and
DMB absolutely rocked. I also went to the Trinity show on friday. I have to
say the set was pretty short, but sweet nonetheless. As for Smith, everything
went right for me that night. The box office screwed up and gave me four ticke
ts instead of two. (but only charged me for two) so I sold them. :) Technical
ly I didn't make any money, but hey! Then I just happened to run into Boyd
outside and I met him for the first time. Great Guy!! THEN I ended up with
front row seats. The set was incredible. (and long) So for me, they
definately made up for the Trinity show. (not that the Trinity show was
disappointing) Anyways, back to the past post in 51....he said that they playe
d X-mas song. NOPE. It was Say Goodbye. Also he left out that they played
Two Step. I think that all he messed up. As for the crowd. I agree, pretty
good. Definately more DMB fans than BHTM fans. Sorry if I'm babbling but
I can't express how good the show was. Oh, when they played Recently, Dave
did his "pretty pretty girl....." thing with Carter. :) Okay, enough for now!

hey all--
last weeks episode some hot a&r girl tried to seduce ray pruitt away from donna
(horse face) and into a recording contract. is that how dave got signed to rca?
and two, it looks like tiffini amber-joyner-kersee-whatever-the-the-hell-her-
name-is is going to try seduce ray next week. do you think they'll ever get dave
in a jade-like cameo and she'll try to seduce him? maybe he'll grow some side-
burns just for the occasion.
including helen hunt, the girl with the reddish hair on friends, oprah, and
that doctor on er.

i was just kidding about that oprah thing. really. no really, i don't have an

howdyfriends-Ticket swap?

marianne@mail.ilt.columbia.edu Wed Feb 8 22:49:30 1995

well now, just stopping in for a few personal hellos and then some business,

first, howdy disco my hip swinging pal, did you get the tape...didya didya
huh...and dash? yup, that's right, the newbie offers plus are rolling
rolling rolling, keep those doggies rolling, had to, Tony won't give me any
new tapes until i finish :-) but then tony is a pathalogical liar so I
probably have 10 crispy new boots waiting at my door. generous to a fault.
my skipping the ole priority sticker, i had to get them out while i had the
urge or maybe i never would. Which reminds me, tapes inexplicably keep
pouring in, ok more like dribbling, but i can't understand it, there's like
20 in all, didn't adam do this same offer in November? weird ok all will go
out, but i've lost track of who was first in, so don't panic if you haven't
seen 'em yet, in fact maybe you want to post me and get my ass in gere as
in Richard, squeeky wheels get oiled, squeeky mice get shot. Exception in
the 100min thang. how's your uncle and um brother's trading working out?

and ohhhh, nebulous, granny wags her finger, you are a naughty boy, spittle
wizzzing through her dentures, we got to arrange this tape deal already. I
ain't a newbie no more, nope, but i still want my tapes, want to see your
earnest, wise eyes so roundly doe-like embedded in your cute, ah so young
flesh, please get in touch. I'd call if i had your number which is
undoubtably swirling in the cyclone of my room, thus far undetected. BTW,
almost got Disco to the Ani show, he missed the joy through no lack of
effort on his part (what a harrowing tale), but i think he turned a few
friends on. come on, it's not too late for you to jump on the ani-wagon,
benji boy, and you can meet eric's sweet sister Elyssa while your at it...

Gavin and Jon posted anything about our little ticket dilemma for the
Roseland dates. Too many Thursdays not enough Fridays. Both days are sold
out. Anyone willing to swap? I'd probably be willing to sell (or swap for
tapes) two thursday's outright. I think I mentioned to one or maybe two
of the columbia boys that I might have extra fridays, nope, nix that, all
bets off.

In a similar vein, Me and da posy are headed down to philly this weekend.
We'll only be at Saturday's show unless someone wants to hook us with a
miracle for friday. Anyone interested in meeting for a pre-show
thang--saturday i mean, or friday too for that matter maybe post-show
friday, and you get the opportunity to rub it in that i missed people
people, drive in drive out, a 30 min #36, etc...And then for sure, I think
we need to make some arrangements for the Friday Roseland show. Maybe
thursday too. hmmmm, still too far away.

well, it is awfully nice to be back. My desktop is pinging away with tales
of joy at shows, i missed a 901258 thread, eh? life is hard, bountiful
discovery, this is what i love and miss and have not too much time for,
ADAM in FLORIDA are you still here? hmmm, ok peace and prosperity to all,
remember to smile, in fact try it right now, i feel like a little spoonin',
spoon spoon every one spoon, ah that reminds me, there've been several
raves in philly, $5 to get in, $5 for acid, $25 for X, i didn't go mr.
officer, but oh boy did i hear it was a good time, how come you boys never
brought me to a party like that?

ok, before i wear out my welcome, there was dave content, remember?
spoons are not only for grape jelly,
marianne

bigger than RCA, but please no Sattelite, Ants, or WWYS. Even The Best

p.s. That cool story about Dave playing a song for that little kid still

Re: Dave Video Info

bmking@mail.wm.edu Wed Feb 8 22:54:07 1995

******Any body know the song on 11-17 after Christmas Song - it is a
familiar song but i have heard so much- it could be something that i have
heard him experament with before. (Set 2)
It is labled "Talk To Me" on the case - but is that the name of the song?

The song in question is known simply as "jam". And always seems to come as

went along. We asked Jeff a few nights later and he said it didn't have a
title that he knew of, so we asked Dave a few weeks later in Houston and he
said "Oh, the jam before Halloween..." And on any setlists that I've seen
it on it is simply labeled "Jam".

the unholy triad alliance of blue drool deemed this song to be named
'justajam'

of course, if it ever evolves into an entire song on it's own, and gets an
apartment, wife, 2.5 kids, etc, then it may grow into another name, one
actually picked by the band. :)

of course of course, this name is about as valid as Heathcliff's Haiku
Warriors, etc..

big brett.. like big bird but with a brett instead of a bird..

dave's new found fame

thelm@mahler.helios.nd.edu Thu Feb 9 00:42:52 1995

Hey all,
ould happen--we could see dave and company in a simpsons' cartoon cameo, like
the red hot chili peppers did one time. i can see it now--the band plays for
krusty, with side-show bob playing organ and adding guest vocals, and nelson
could say "ha-ha" in time with carter's drumming. who knows.
"shaft." why couldn't the band play the theme from shaft? my mother may be the
best mother in the world, but shaft is still the baddest mother around.

make your head turn.. thing is, the song IS catchy.. now I can't get it out
of my head.. my head won't leave.. naw, to cliche'd. :)

non-gripe #2 - if I may steal an idea from a friend.. anyone think dave &
co. are going to wear tuxes on valentines? standard operating procedure when
you're with the symphony, no? :) heh.. I could just imagine it, though..
lotsa tears, me thinks.. or tears.. or both..

Hey there-
NYE tree. I've heard from most of you and written back to most I've
heard from(sometimes I lose track...sorry), but tonight was one of the
first times I've heard of any problems...so, even though I've talked to
some of you about your parents/children, please let me know if people are
MIA again, or if you haven't heard from your parents/branches...

90210, yes boofy, I too put much thought into that show, it's an HSC Rugby
tradition, started by people now long gone.

Anybody out there who has the equipment and likes Gibb Droll please tape his
shows!!!! Lately a lot of people have been asking me for Gibb shows and I
realized that I might be the only person on the net who has any of his shows.
So, please tape, we need to fill this void. Now that DMB has called it quits
(at least temp.) you should be itching to tapes _somebody_!! Nuff said!

need a date...

tnb2d@server.cs.virginia.edu Thu Feb 9 01:34:06 1995

Hey Folks,
just received the REAL 11/17/92 (complete with "Nu-Nu" quote!). So
now I'm at a loss. can anyone help me identify this show?

------------% snip %----------------------% snip %------------

Trax - NO DATE, maybe some time in late '92? (90)
-------------------------------------------------
Rockin' good Tuesday Night show. Watchtower AND Julio!
"Shortnin' Bread" outro on Warehouse.

Warehouse Dangerous Hours
Halloween Minarets
Granny Blue Water
What Would You Say? Lover Lay Down
Spotlight Lie In Our Graves
Eyes of the Maker True Reflections
All Along the Watchtower
Me & Julio

------------% snip %----------------------% snip %------------

might be 3/23/93? Does this next pair look like the setlist from
that show?

------------% snip %----------------------% snip %------------

probably Trax - NO DATE, early '93 but after Miguels death #1 (90)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Quality is pretty good, and the show is absolutely amazing. This is a
solid reminder of the good old days and why I wish Peter was still
around.

Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors	-Jimi Thing
Minarets Ants Marching
Best Of What's Around So Much To Say
Typical Situation One Sweet World
Watchtower True Reflections
Back You Up
Two Step
Granny
Jimi Thing-

probably Trax - NO DATE, early '93 but after Miguels death #2 (90)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Quality is pretty good, and the show is absolutely amazing. This is a
solid reminder of the good old days and why I wish Peter was still
around. "Rhyme & Reason" the way it should be!

Recently Minarets
Rhyme & Reason Blue Water Babboon Farm
Dancing Nancies Warehouse
#34 Tripping Billies

------------% snip %----------------------% snip %------------

pretty darned early though.

------------% snip %----------------------% snip %------------

probably Trax - NO DATE, definitely early (90)
----------------------------------------------
Pretty good quality. Dave says "Seek Up" is brand new and has no
definite lyrics yet. He then goes on to say that "Drive In, Drive
Out" is "REALLY NEW". Hot show anyway.

Seek Up Two Step
Drive In, Drive Out Minarets
Lie In Our Graves Blue Water Baboon Farm
Dancing Nancies So Much To Say
One Sweet World Satellite
Song That Jane Likes Tripping Billies
Watchtower
Lover Lay Down

------------% snip %----------------------% snip %------------

solo show at DKE Dave mentioned he was "meeting the guys to play at
the Lodge later". I've also heard this date is undated. If he did in
fact go to the Lodge that night then the date in question is 9/11/92
because that's the night they played the Lodge (and burned down the
house, I might add!). Thank you for you support,

a minor challenge...

"Ants-Recently-Billies" sequence, with no breaks between? I don't
know if they've ever even played this but I'd kill or die to have it
if they have. I can still hear "Ants-Recently" in my sleep
sometimes, and "Recently-Billies" is a well-remembered one as well,
(I've heard both live more often than "Minarets-Blue Water") but I
cannot say if I've ever heard the trinity.
with this killer "Warehouse" I keep hearing about? (float is a bad
word- I have over 80 hours of DMB to trade for it!) Do me right,

Hey What up everyone,
hours with a friend to get down to San Francisco on December Fourth. The
show was incredible. It would mean a great deal to me if someone had
this show on tape and would be so kind as to help me aquire a copy. I
can't even begin to explain what a long and crazy journey it was. We
tryed to get down to San Jose to see them open for Phish. We missed that
show by only about a half hour. However, we did get to them the next
night and it was amazing, anything you can do to help me would be great.

Europe?

<@castle.ed.ac.uk:9484130@lewis.sms.edinburgh.ac.uk> Thu Feb 9 07:01:51 1995

I tried to mail this once before and never saw it in a digest. So..
here goes again.

Hello everyone and greetings from the rainy city of Edinburgh. I'm from
Vermont and go to school in Minnesota, but I'm here at the University of
Edinburgh this winter/spring/summer and I was really bummed when all my
friends at home were talking about the DMB tour... untill I checked the
tour dates file and found these dates. I've been watching the past few
digests with any more news of the European shows and all I know is what
I read in the tour dates...

March 18 St. Paul, MN (where I was living)
March 21 Glasgow, Scotland (near where I live now)
March 22 London (where I want to see a show)
March 23 Paris (another place where I plan to be)
March 27 Milan, Italy (another possible show)

What is known about these shows? Is DMB opening for someone or are they
touring by themselves? Do you think they'll be over jetlag after flying
straight from Minnesota to the UK (I assume that is what they're doing
at least). How sure are these dates? Any venue or ticket information?
I think that seeing them here will be a totally different experience
then the US; I just went and saw Live in Glasgow this past weekend.
There were 350 people there as opposed to the 10,000 you get in the US
now that I Alone has been a Buzz.. oh nevermind. We've been through
this debate before.

Anyhow, any information on DMB here in Europe would be greatly
appreciated.

Cheers!

Sometimes it sux, (not DMB)

drcraver@mailbox.syr.edu Thu Feb 9 08:24:09 1995

It sux when something small and pure that you're totally into becomes
larger and larger to the point where it steals what you once thought was
unique and defining of a sub population.
A lot of you will say who's this idiot, where was he in 92', but I assure
you my thoughts are sincere, I've seen happen before and so have you.
Make the best of what's around and pray that something else comes along
to entertain the MTV generation.

Carter's rig

hauser@server.chem.ufl.edu Thu Feb 9 08:31:09 1995

When I first started taking drum lessons, my teacher, a jazz drummer, always
had his ride on the left side as well. It seems to be common in jazz to set
up this way. One other reason this works well is for drummers who are not
dependent on one hand. Carter can ride the ride or drive the hat with either
hand flawlessly, so having the ride on his left side allows him to improvise
freely with his right. Also, its been a while since I've seen him, but I
think he has a pair of power hats on the right that are permanently
closed, so he doesn't have to commit to the normal right over left hand
technique of playing the hi-hat and snare, which kinda hampers using the
left hand as much...

Re: hey i took the midterm once, the second time should be easy

Matthew.V.Jennings@dartvax.dartmouth.edu Thu Feb 9 09:49:33 1995

im glad someone spends as muich time thinking about this show as i
do....i, sadly to say, watched it in the jouranlism building tonite in a
classroom with a tv while writing a story for reporting class...

i bet if my teachers new how smart i was with email, unix and irc, i'd
get better grades...
--- end of quoted material ---

I spent a lot of time watching tv in exactly the same room (3rd floor Reid
Hall) while doing work and I turned out all right. And never underestimate the
J-School profs-- DeMaria, MacDonald, Richardson, the Hamster and Jennings(Dad)
know more than you think.
As for the 1-30-93 show at Zollman's, probably the best Dave show I have ever
seen.

Re: Dave and 90210

Andrew.D.Mims.1@nd.edu Thu Feb 9 10:36:19 1995

hey all--
with all this talk about 90210, i gotta be wondering two things. one, in
last weeks episode some hot a&r girl tried to seduce ray pruitt away from donna
(horse face) and into a recording contract. is that how dave got signed
to rca?
and two, it looks like tiffini amber-joyner-kersee-whatever-the-the-hell-her-
name-is is going to try seduce ray next week. do you think they'll ever
get dave
in a jade-like cameo and she'll try to seduce him? maybe he'll grow some side-
burns just for the occasion.
and you can't keep adding names to the list of pretty people on tv without
including helen hunt, the girl with the reddish hair on friends, oprah, and
that doctor on er.

entirely too much free time on my hands,
                                theo

i was just kidding about that oprah thing. really. no really, i don't have an
oprah fetish.

Theo-
have one is the first step to recovery. And stop talking about 90210 and
Dave Matthews in the same message, we don't want to give him any more ideas
on joining the mainstream.

was the world cafe show last weekend? nobody has said anything
about it. for all you nyc people, world cafe is on WFUV 90.7fm everyday
from 11pm to 1am.

jon - need to decide on a meeting place for the philly show on saturday
so you, marianne and i can meet some of these minaretters in the flesh
how about beijing and we can get you some grandfather chicken? :)
4233 Walnut would have been perfect.

eric, brother e, e - tricks bidniz is very tough. guitar is going well, fingers
are
sore, but that's nothing new. sorry you won't be coming to philly with us. road
trip would have been fun. i guess marianne, jon and i will have to do our
own tings :) we'll make a toast to you after the show and listen to halloween
at least 3 times this weekend.

marianne - welcome back babe. looking forward to hanging with you this
weekend, haven't hung out in a while. looks like i'll have to jerk some chicken
to get you and mr. yang up to my place.

e - why don't you add this one to the collection
"oh, jerk chicken and rice on a plate and staring up at me!"

ok here's my imitation of bill bellamy introducing dmb, "well this next band
coming
up is kicking craazy flava from charlottsville virginia. they got a sax, a
fiddle and...
i don't even want to _try_ to describe it for y'all, but these guys are
kickin... so here
check out the video...". i don't care what anyone says, i love bill bellamy,

Uh-oh, people are gonna start thinking I crawled into a hole and covered
it over with grass or sumthin.

I beg everyone's forgiveness if I haven't been keeping in touch this
week...I am sick as all get out, and haven't been as stoned as I am on
my medicine right now in a longlonglong time. whooo, naproxen and
dimetapp, I never knew....

Anyway, I have been completely incoherent for days now, and it's
freezing in my house, and the headlights on my car burnt out, and James
Merrill died, and my puppy had to go to the vet...

so eric, I am not
feeling too spritely... It's one of those cases when I really want to be
playin outside and running around, and just thinking about doing it saps
all my energies and I go back and curl up under the blankets...
It's a "spring sweet rhythm dance in my head..." but only in my head, ya
know?

marianne, I did get the tapes, don't remember
when exactly..they're wonderful... Thankyouthankyouthankyou...

Will, I honestly will get in touch soon about the tape label stuff and
the trades.

Everyone have masses of fun at V-Day, 3rd St., etc...

Albany 2/8/95 Palace Theater

Matthew.S.Bruno@williams.edu Thu Feb 9 12:52:22 1995

Since no one else commented on last night's show, i thought I would throw
in my two cents. I cannot remember the entire setlist, though several
things stand out in my mind. First, Ugly Americans were pretty bad
except for on e song during which Boyd jammed. they all seemed to be in
awe of him when he walked on stage! On to BHT. Todd can play, but
otherwise they were pretty standard and seemed to have played a little
bit long. Dave came on at 10:00 and played one set lasting one hour.
Two Step and Jimi Thing were highlights though Tripping Billies and
Dancing nancies were also pretty cool. Pay for what you get was really
cool except for the crowd. The crowd was pretty bad, plenty of Satellite
dances and high fives among those pressed up against the stage. I was
disappointed by the the comments during Pay for what you get of "this is
way too fuckin mellow" and "What the fuck is this.." One thing I did
realize is that if you don't like the crowd around you, close your eyes.
I began doing this at Phish a couple of years ago when they got "famous"
and now I find myself doing it at DMB shows. After all, we pay to hear
the band play. Oh well, there you have it. If anyone has the tape and
wants to trade, I am interested. Talk to you later.

And what about that "big league chew" show? I think the date
might be 3/23/93? Does this next pair look like the setlist from
that show?

Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors	-Jimi Thing

Watchtower True Reflections
Back You Up
Two Step
Granny
Jimi Thing-

Dancing Nancies Warehouse

this is not big league chew. this is 3-23-93. there's a big
difference. i'll be posting more on that later....:)

Pretty good quality. Dave says "Seek Up" is brand new and has no
definite lyrics yet. He then goes on to say that "Drive In, Drive
Out" is "REALLY NEW". Hot show anyway.
he also calls it smelly shoes, so your show should be labeled that
way for this particular show. he mentions something about not having
lyrics so bear with him. when he gets to smelly shoes he says something
like "this one is really new, so having any words at all would be a bit
much to expect from me..."

i believe the date is 5-14-92, but don't hold me to that.
