Re: Dec 30th, Bayou Washington DC

benjamin@sccs.swarthmore.edu Sun Nov 20 15:19:45 1994

About DMB playing the Bayou on December 30 -- I am pretty certain that
God Street Wine says that they (GSW) are playing at the Bayou that
night. I could be wrong, but you probably want to check. Given the fact
that DMB is probably too big now to play at the BAyou this might be
true. They played Lisner the last time, right?

Ben

As far as I know, DMB will be playing the Bayou in DC the night before
their big bash NYE in Richmond. So if I'm like dead wrong, set me straight.
But does anyone know if tickets have gone/will go on sale soon or has it
 passed already?

I have a tape of her from a while back, and she says "This is for all you
freakazoidals out there.. for all you who people wanna put a label,
.. a ... a nametag on.." and then breaks into "What I Am".

I'm not too crazy about this name-searching, gang. I'm with the thought that
if we want a label/nametag for followers of daveband, it will come naturally.
It seems like the issue is being unnaturally pushed. Maybe it's just because
none of the "names" I've seen have really caught my eye and have made me
willing to embrace it.. But the posts lately have been debating this name
vs. that name and what this means or what that says..

Maybe it's also that I don't like stereotypes being applied. Trek fans, avid
book readers, computer junkies, sports fans, animal rights activists... you
name it, all have a name. And when that name is applied many assumptions are
made. However, this negative result is unavoidable.

In no way do I want to come down on those advocating names for the followers,
but I don't think it should be pushed. When it will come, it will come.
There is not a time constraint here. I'd prefer a term that many use
casually and sticks to one that is formally decided upon.

may all the multiple recipients of list live well..

11/19/94 and other stuff

longmire@ucsuc.Colorado.EDU Sun Nov 20 17:40:36 1994

11-19-94

wow-this show is a prime example of why you can't judge a show purely on
setlist

in the words of Bagby-"tonight they were slammin'"

can you say energy?

mvp-stefan
enough said
I'll post more about this later
impressions on the weekend-

Boyd jammed with Gibb Droll on 2 tunes-very nice including "So What"

Thurs- covered in a previous post but it was a cruiser until the last 4
tunes when they kicked into serious high energy

the video footage shot at the Fox will complement other more artistic
compositions- sounds pretty cool-yes,as mentioned before, painted faces etc.

it looked amazingly real as they were essentially lipsynching to the CD
cut of WWYSay-Carter looked hilarious when they weren't doing closeups on
him as he would play along to the tune and obviously could've done it in
his sleep and I only saw the last hr or so of the shoot

the band seemed to be having a good time despite what had to be a totally
monotonous event

as far as the show goes, during the 1st set it was so lit up in there
with the house lights up and the added lights from the video crew, it was
totally surreal-imagine being able to see everyone's face in the
crowd as well as that of the band-definitely wild for a zoomer buzz
I put on my sunglasses

the band will be doing encores with Phish at the upcoming California
shows-apparently they've been talking about specific songs to
do together

look for an upcoming tour with Big Head Todd with each band sharing the
bill and alternating as openers and closers

last word on the Fox shows- the crowds were overall very cool-the mix was
so good-clean, fat and powerul-beautiful image etc that an aud tape would
have blown away the board tape

2 of my older friends-they graduated from UVa law school in the 80's-saw
their 1st Dave shows last night- needless to say, they used to think
Indecision was the shit

take it easy

we danced in graveyards with vampyres till noon

CLIFFORDC@urvax.urich.edu Sun Nov 20 18:00:54 1994

a member of the opposite sex, with your back puzzled(the
key word) into their front side. Or vise versa, with your
front side pussled into their back. I guess it is a uniform
pattern of snuggling (although I hate that word) with
   	       someone.
anyway, this definition of spooning troubles me. why do we need to include
me to. trouble me... trouble man... trouble joel's dog.

the phrase "hopefully a member of the opposit sex?" this phrase immediately
connotes alterior motives, and i really see it hard to deny this. i also see
it as completely defeating the purpose of spooning. spooning is platonic,
and worrying about the sex of the individuals involved brings in sexual
orientation, and if you start worrying about that, you aren't spooning
anymore.
right on my fellow spooner!
spooning is not something that is sexual. not in any way. one _can_ spoon
with someone you are intimately involved with, but it's not a sexual
activity. it is a form on intimacy. and one can have intimacy with
anyone, regarless of race, IQ, and most of all gender. spooning is an
activity that should not cause SEX to come into one's mind. like rick
said. dear dear rick.... 'if you start worrying about it, you aren't
spooning anymore.....' so true.. so true...

the most precise definition of spooning i can give, is 'platonic cuddling'
because that is all that spooning is.
i spoon with my cat.
i spoon with my stuffed grover from sesame street.
i spoon with my pillow.
i spoon with my best friends (guys and girls)
you can spoon with anyone and it is all bout not being confined within
the realm of sex and gender. it's about being involved with another
person and the comfort and intimacy level you are on do share it in such
a manner as wonderful as spooning.

tell the kids to drink their hot chocolate and that i cant' wait to spoon
with them over coffee and dinner at 3rd st.

love light trust and multi-dimensional energy...
clare emily

Anne, Jane, Dave

eje3u@uva.pcmail.virginia.edu Sun Nov 20 18:34:34 1994

 yes folks
 anne was his sister
and although i hesitate to discuss details about people's private lives
 in public ...
it is true, atleast as closely as i can varify through friends of the
band and such .. repeated conversations and the like, ...
that it was her husband that shot her and then shot himself
and yes it is true that her 2 sons (dave's nephews) were left orphaned
and yes they are pictured on UTTAD
and ... i have only seen them once at Vanriper's Lake near C-ville last
spring, with his sister Jane, where dave dedicated the first songs to
them as it was the first time his nephews had heard him play.

I havn't seen this mentioned yet, and probably many of you know it already,
the woman with Dave and the nephews inside the CD is Jane.
Does anyone know how often she attends concerts these days? She said
somthing once in a local paper here in Charlottesville that didn't get much
attention on minarets but it implied that Dave was likely to move on from
this career when his interests inevitably led him elswhere. Sort of like
this was just a hobby for now. This was about the time that people were
lamenting the lack of new material, and I took the two together to be a bad
sign for the future of DMB. I'm more optimistic now but still wary.

DMB in Texas!!!!!!

HFEJP@utxdp.dp.utexas.edu Sun Nov 20 22:39:26 1994

Hello all.

Just had it confirmed that Dave is finally coming to Texas in December, and
felt the need to share my joy with people who understand! I'm also wondering
if there are any other souls on Minarets who might be going to the shows. I
haven't noticed any email addresses with Texas origins, but if you're out there
please let me know. The band will be doing three shows down here -- Here in
Austin on the 15th (venue TBA), Houston on the 16th, and Trees in Dallas on
the 17th. Grad school is kind to me and I have no finals, so I think I'm going
to try to hit all three. It would be great to know that someone cool from the
net will be there too (Hint Hint Brett -- think you can swing the plane fare??)
Anyway, I am truly psyched! I think Austin will go crazy for Dave.

Everybody have a great Turkey day.

dsacker@sccs.swarthmore.edu Sun Nov 20 23:08:50 1994

I am shocked and appalled at this latest flame outburst. This is the first
time I have actually posted to minarets and I would have liked it to be about
a better subject (like seeing dave twice in one weekend while playing in
an Ultimate tournament simultanously; all in three distinct areas, NYC,
Philly, and State College PA.), unfortunately, it is not.

I just don't understand all of the anger that has been surfacing on
minarets lately. Why can't people just leave well enough alone. I do not
want to personally attack johnfro but I felt that his last message was
rude and obnoxious; not only to Sandy but to others reading it. I am not
a big fan of flame wars but when we resort to using violent threats, my
stomach turns.

I can not figure out whether or not this was some sort of sick joke. If it
was, I did not find in amusing. If it was a sincere post, I feel
distraught at the use of explicatives and violent threats. This net
should be a place to talk about what a great band DMB is, not to attack
one another.

Have a great week and a Happy Thanksgiving,
Dave

that "Multiple Recipients of List 'Minarets'" was a little too cold.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Alex could probably correct me on this, but
it might not be possible to change the namefield, so all of this
"Don't Label Me, Damnit!" stuff is kinda wasted. We all should
understand the problems with labels [ notice the close proximitiy to
'libel' nuff said], and the differentiation that is not what Minarets
is about. If we really want to change the name field to something
a few pence, not even $.02.

not need to be on the Net. It is not up to the other readers to edit

love admired by poets and desired
by hungry,hungry hatred
no new directions

the man he lies, compromise, whats in his eyes
is it tears of conviction
for the good,for the truth
i hear him say,we must,we must
murder millions
no new directions

in our hands
hold the land and the sky
in our hands
its a grand illusion
no new directions

.....this is the song. Anyone?

*********************************************
and yes i finally heard the infamous 11/17 tape by the graciousness
of her godessness. wow. was everyone on the floor in complete
orgasmic ecstacy during Blue H2o? or were they floating around the
room defying all sorts of gravity. i've caught some good "Blues" but
Boyd didn't quite do what he did there. that song,as noticed at
early shows, seemed to bore alot of people until Boyd got thier
attention. but for me. holy shit i wished i was on stage being able
to perform such a heavy, mellow song. maybe one day......anyway,
for those who own a copy, do everyone justice and put 11/17 Blue Water
Baboon on any tape that needs a filler.....alllriiigghhhhttt.

********************************
so on to the next wave. poor old Nags Head got a beating. anyone out
there have connections to the shorebreak in Salvo? i paid my dues
this summer....4 wheels,a peanut bar,6 in the morning, and a
hangover.....damn forgot the wax...oh well gonna eat sand for
breakfast again. hello?

and back to the relevance of DAMABA.
i love the band and i love you. (no i'm not Barney the dino)
Peace to shakin' that ass.

NYE questions n stuff

amity3@minerva.cis.yale.edu Mon Nov 21 12:07:41 1994

Hi everyone.
I'm unfamiliar as to the facts about NYE. Maybe someone could post what
tix prices (40 or 50 or what?)
accomadations... do we really stay there at the hotel?
other related stuff.
Sorry if this is a redundant post but I'm fairly new to the minarets
world and just trying to get as much DMB as possible!
BTW- is it true that the show is 18+ and if so...How can one beat
that.I'm only 17 and all.
PS-SPOONING IS COOL AND IT IS ALSO WHATEVER YOU WISH IT TO BE FOR
YOURSELF AND YOUR PARTNER. (sexual or not!!)
room for personal interpretation of something quite personal...but still
very thoughtful and nice and good.

i little something i want to share...

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Mon Nov 21 12:41:41 1994

for those of you who endeavour to create literate works, whether they be
poetry, short stories, long stories, lyrics, or just random collections of
arabic symbols that have come to have abstract meaning in modern european
based societies, you should know that kind of gooey feeling inside that you
get when you create something that you actually like. this is a poem i
wrote last week when i saw someone mention creating small pieces on why we
all like dave band, and it gave me that gooey feeling. i hate most of my
own efforts at poetry and lyricy (?), but i liked this one. figured i'd
share and put some peace on the net. god (dave) knows we need it;)

while in the corners of the dark
 two strangers' minds make love
cordoned off our souls for one more night
and listen in on the peace that invades our souls
 and dance....
 dance...
 for peace
 and dance....
it never ends until it's over
then part with hugs under signs of insight
your head is a shovel, use it
 sitting on balconies
dancing for peace in the warehouse
 until we meet again

hello davers or what ever you want to call yourselves,
not a nickname which is similar to it. `the only thing i worry about is the
notion of being a daver might spread to being a clichee rather than a meaning.
What i'm trying to say is that if you start naming yourself in support of dmb
it will only fertilize the popularity. dmb has done their music through the
underground and not commercialized for a reason. IT IS TRUE TALENT AND NOT JUST
ONE VIDEO!!!! i.e Green day " sorry if any of you like green day." But that is
not my point, if dmb becomes to "trendy" like phish is becoming, "LORD KNOWS I
LOVE THEM ALMOST AS MUCH AS DMB" and it looses the personal affect, not to
mention it becomes harder to get tickets to concerts.
YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is mainly concerning some guy named johnfro-from DUKE university,
in the last digest he posted some very, very lame material. This pisses
me off, if you want to flame someone with so much obscenity, and so LITTLE
POINT-don't post it, because nobody here wants to have to sort out all
the good meaningful things, from people like you and their HATE MAIL. I like
Minarets So much simply because it is a bunch of people who are all in
a common love, Dave. If you want to post stuff like that go to some
usenet news group-there are many for people like you to choose from. Whether
or not you were joking, most of us cannot tell-but from now on we dont need
any crap wasting bandwidth. In my five or so months here, your post is
the first COMPLETELY NON-CONSRTUCTIVE flame I have ever read-if you want
to talk shit, do it on Phish.net. Just my 2 cents. If I am wrong and
most of you guys think "sandy" deserved to be flamed like that, let me
know-I probably should not have spoken for the whole group. From now on
lets try to stay a kind bunch of buds, nobody interfering with what another
is doing-it will stay a much cooler place that way. later
tomorrow we'll go back to bein friends-Dave

5 ants per row t-shirt

vastolj@alleg.EDU Mon Nov 21 18:32:59 1994

Scott Miller said.....
Hey guys,

and 5 ants per row. The ants would all be cartoon ants that look alike and

are marching. You wouldn't be able to tell them apart, kind of like the

song, "All the little ants are marching . . . They all do it the same way."

a band member. So far I've done the first row and I have the third ant,

dancing and playing a guitar. In each of the consecutive 5 rows, an ant

would be, for instance, playing the fiddle with his leg up in the air like

Boyd when he starts getting into it.

great idea, how about along with the band (maybe include Peter too?) have a
row of ants with caricatures of Rick, Clare, Alex, and a few others who have
been around for awhile. I think it would be an honor for them, and would
pretty funny as well. thoughts? Don't be humble guys.

on my way,

long-winded, but i think i have something to say

malachi@leland.Stanford.EDU Tue Nov 22 00:56:23 1994

Sorry to waste bandwidth, but
noticed that LOTS of people (especially virgin posters) start their messages
with "Sorry to waste bandwidth, but". I think this is because many are wary
(or even scared) that they might get flamed (knock on wood) if what they
write doesn't change the life of every single "recipient of list." I
would hope, and I'm fairly positive, that we are all understanding enough
to bear with a couple of "I need to get in touch with..."s or "Does anyone
have..."s etc. per day, especially considering the volume of mail each of us
gets from the net that doesn't concern us anyway. Do we really need to
begin every post with an apology?
kind of indroduction to the net as newbies, one in addition to but less
technical than the original welcome letter. It could deal with such
issues as netiquette, tape trading (I was very impressed with a recent
post along this line with a newbie offer at the end), spooning, etc.
Perhaps, if one crazy soul would agree to act as a sort of Minarets guide
for newbies, their address could be included with the lyrics master and
faq master for any non-DMB related questions. Most importantly, we get
constant posts about ftp, http, www, mosaic, etc. If I knew enough
about it, I would definitely volunteer to help all weave their way through the
befuddling yet rewarding system, but I know less about it than your average
chimp (every once in a while, I can make it all the way in and back out
with a rewarding tidbit, but it's rare).
medication, just say so.

BTW - Are any of you going to be sitting by yourselves at your computers
all Turkey Break like me? If not, when you get back, you'll have lots of
mail from me, cause I'll get lonely and post several times each day just
to get some mail.

Also,
wasn't just a phase I was going through; the music's actually really
damn good! If anyone has any EXCELLENT quality boots of UNIQUE shows,
I'd love to trade some DMB.

gathering before the Atlanta show, but I thought it'd be pretty fun, so I
asked. Everyone that responded seemed so happy to be alive (again it
could be the medication) and it put a big ol' smile on the face of this
DMB fan, especially after all the recent net confusion. Oh, the tally so
Pinky
Ring
Birdie
Pointer
Thumb
Me

That's six! As far as I'm concerned, 2 constitutes a gathering (Let's
see... 2's company, 3's a crowd, I guess 6 must be One Sweet World). But
I certainly do hope that more people will respond, and I'll probably post
again after T-Giving Break for all those Come-Back-Laties.

Out of curiosity (and if anyone's still with me):

I'm kind of waiting for someone to interrupt me or something...

Whoa!! Here comes the medication again

t shirts, names, emily conjura, free beer in post!

NebuIous@aol.com Tue Nov 22 01:25:54 1994

t shirts t shirts... okay i give up on fighting the ants thing. if everyone
wants it, everyone gets it unless rick or boofy's vote counts for 50 each or
sumthin. huh huh.

but what i thought would be neato keen would be a quote on the back. one
quote. i would go with

'life is short but sweet for certain'

to me, this is dave in a nutshell. sure there are songs like R&R, seek up,
etc, but as a lyricist, his entire approach to life seems to sprawl out as
living life to the fullest as i think most hearty minareters (especially that
chardy-hippie-type guy. wowzers! :-)) tend to follow.

so. there is my idea for the day.

also, when is this name thing gonna stop? we are NEVER going to decide on a
name, many don't WANT a name, and generally it's just a bad idea from start
to finish.

oh, and for gods sake let sandy and jeanfro have their little 'joke'
(whatever) on the net. this isn't the first time and it isn't the last time
they are gonna do stuff like that, so just let it go.

anyone with an irving plaza tape also get in touch.

drive in drive out i'm sleeping

ben (and no clare, i probably didn't send this at the time it says i did so
quit yr crazystuff mothering!!!)

just another memo from the cellar,

Granny-- the SONG not the name

dominic@raptor.sccs.swarthmore.edu Tue Nov 22 01:46:24 1994

I think this is my THIRD post on this sing. I friggin love it.

Anyways,
on the next album or anything, unless Dave somehow puts em all in there.
;)

I was listening to my most Recently aquired Bagby, Irving Plaza (7/28/94),

"Telegram come from my Grandad
Telling me Granny's dead..."

inspiration? Does anyone know the date? Can we correlate? I just
want to know more about where Dave is coming from in this song...

Laters,

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
read. bike. read. listen to dave. read. eat?
sleep. read. type. listen to dave. write. eat.
sleep? play disc. read. bike. listen to dave. EAT!
eat... eat. listen to dave. listen to dave. hear dave.

repeat until you throw your faith to the face of the next good

Change
I can feel the autumn on the summer's heels,
I hate to notice how much colder the night it feels.
And your leaving me. Yes, you're leaving me.
Time to change. Time to change.
I can remember a time not too long ago,
but now I almost wish I didn't so these memories wouldn't hurt me so.
Wouldn't hurt me so.
Afraid of change. Afraid of change.
Just take what you learn from your past.
Feel your heart and your mind
yearning and burning and learning and turning so fast.
So goddamn fast.
Freedom of change. Freedom of change.
G
Time for your dreams to be put to test.
Time to find out that you're just like the rest.
It's so decieving. So decieving.
A part of change. A part of change.
F-C-G
Da da da da da doe doe da da....
Can you feel the excitement that's about to take place?
F C G
F C G
And freedom, and untold possibilities couldn't stop you.
Some freedoms make you free to last.
Of all the questions you might ask, let this one go.
Let this one go.
Will I change? Yes you will change.
So the road is yours and without end.
Remember me always, because I am your friend.
I am your friend.
And now change. You and I will change.
And we'll be alright. Yes we will...
==========================================================
Another song by John Popper, "With You" - I don't knwo how to go about this,
here's a sloppy transcription, without the words.
The song is done on a 12-string, capo to the 5th fret.
The main thing about the song is that it is done by firts hitting the bass
note of each chord, then four rapid even strum on the rest of the chord.
then between chords, play 6th string by itself, open, then 2nd fret, then
3rd fret, then back to
The refrain is :
Each section is repeated about four times.
==========================================================
there ya go!

----------------------------------------------------------------

My friends, here is the third in a (God/Popper) willing endless stream of
acoustic songs by John Popper that I have transcribed from solo bootlegs. This
one's called Ain't That Life, and it's incredible. Popper always introduces it
as the song that got him through highschool, and then college. It seems, come
the end of the semester, he would always be failing English. He found that if
he played this song the teacher would pass him "out of pitty or something."
Oh-- he wrote it in 1986, when the Challeger blew up. Enjoy...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---===Ain't That Life===---
(Played as open chords w/capo on 5th fret)

D
Sometimes we try and reach the stars,
A
sometimes we overtry.
G
Sometimes we try and live a little,
and sometimes we only die.
D
Sometimes we try and hit new hights,
and sometimes we hit the ground.
G
Sometimes when we do it's a silent night,
sometimes a terrible sound.

But ain't that life, ain't that a life, anyway.
We can hope and we can pray, we can try and make a better day.
But when it's over, what's to say?
Except Ain't that life, anyway.

We want to teach, we want to learn.
We don't want to feel alone.
We want to say that we're gods on earth,
when we're really just flesh and bone.
We're so damn proud of our intellect
that we try and chase the sun.
The war of technology's over,
but we really don't know who won.

-=(Chorus)=-
D
Teacher in space, without doubt or discrace,
the TV said so, everybody cried.
But take another glance at a good distance,
just a couple of people died.
D
Hoping to rise, she streaked up through the sky.
A
I wonder if anybody asked her, is there anyone up there to teach?

-=(Chorus)=-
Well, somewhere someone's laughing,
while somewhere someone cries.
D G
Somewhere someone sees the truth,
where someone else tells lies.
D G
Somewhere there's a Christian,
whos contemplating Zen,
and somewhere there's a pervert luring children to his den.
D G
Somewhere a girl rides a skateboard,
and hopes to be president.
D G A D
Somewhere an aging actor decides to give up lent.
A realtor takes up smoking, who can not find a match.
A kid nearly dies in his dad's new car,
and worries about the scratch!
A newborn kitten freezes,
while two young lovers part.
And maybe right here some sucker could be taking this song to heart.

It's beautiful. It's all so beautiful.
It's beautiful. It's all so beautiful.

D
Dreams can live on long after we're gone.
What's really in a dream?
Sometimes we're just some lies in a gambler's eyes,
sometimes see them quietly scream.
D
Some people die, while others are born.
For some people life goes on.
When you get through the wait, we're just visitors here,
so you really can't do nothing wrong.

-=(Chorus)=-
Cause when it's over what's to say?
Except ain't that life, anyway.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Sitting in my room after dinner I pulled out my mandolin and figured out the
chords to the ever-popular catchy new hit single, Hook. Maybe now I can
get the damn song unstcuk from my head (that's what happens when you listen to
it four times a day, day in, day out!) I thought I'd share them with you all.
I don't have the words in front of me but it's no great challenge to match the
chords to the words. It's the same country blues progresssion all the way

A//E//F#m//C#7//D//A//D//E//

That's it. Popper strums the open chords; Chan does barres and his funky
little arpeggios. Have fun....

id of time in Athens

I have the second set from 2.26.94 @ the Bayou in d.c. and there is a fill from
the Georgia Theater, Athens. It's dancing nancies and what would you say.
Dave does say "I could get in trouble for this, but Athens is my favorite place
to play." He also comments on how unusual it is to have fans above him (the
balcony) and says in the dave witty voice we all know best, "that's the place

Filling your mail

KULPK@tiger.hsc.edu Tue Nov 22 11:26:21 1994

I just thought I'd make sure that those of you who will be stuck at their
comps. over break have some mail. My nameless friend at UVA has sent me a new
name idea, but I don't think I'll pass this along. Oh, my last post, that
"berry Banks" quote wasn't really a Dave quote, it seems I got a hold of some
bad pot roast, and.. uh... well you can figure it out. Malachi, fire up hoss!
I'm proud of you. You, Clare and I should lobby for a Net smoking lounge or
something, actually, I'd just as soon drag the damn computer outside in the
glorious fresh air, and then smoke away. Dominic, I had something to say to
you, but I deleted your post and now I can't remember, oh hell. I'm gonna go
get in my car and listen to "Cry Freedom" and "Say Goodbye" over and over, all
all those people I'm working trades with, I sent tapes to two people, the rest
will have to wait untiul after break. I'm goin' home and my nipples couldn't
be harder (sorry about that). Well, I best be going, enjoy your turkeys all.
you people eat, Christ if I know. I'll stick with my American tradition of
cooked animal flesh. Mmmm Mmmm good!

"I was hoping we could all get a little bit intimate. Hope I didn't embarasse
anybody" -Dave

"Cause, nothin' is what I'm gonna be"

To celebrate his new found freedom, let us all welcome Malachi and invite him
to smoke in my message. *Hurrah!!! Hurrah!!* chant the masses.

Stay tuned for scenes from the next Melrose Place...

cbuford@liberty.uc.wlu.edu Tue Nov 22 13:57:51 1994

Let's see if I can remember everything I wanted to say..

1)Since Ben S. said my vote counted for 50, I'm gonna toss in my nay vote
for the ants concept, at least for a minaret.net kinda t-shirt. I kinda
figured this shirt would be for netters, not that we are exclusive or
whatever, but to symbolize the group of us that have nothing better to do
but write notes to imaginary friends in the hopes that one day we will
meet them. Figureing this, I hive a YEAH for the concept of the guy
screaming from the minaret. It'll be relevant to the actual title of the
net, not just dave tunes, and alot of people probably won't understand it
unless they think about it (not a bad thing). Putting the address on it
in small letters at the bottom can't hurt. It's not like were emblazing
the back of the t-shirt with subscribe info, and anyway, its in the
news letter anyway.
obvious kinda meaning, the ants bit just dont do it for me....

2)New Years....everyone must attend, there is NO excuse. You are all on
break, youa can all fly to virginia. You will get to meet especcially
cool netters. This means you especially Bens (Tannen and Sterling!!!!)

3)I forgot....

Kudos till after turkey day....unless I get to telnet from someone elses
acount...

Guys please!
I don't want to see this turn into another phish.net full of people just
saying mean things to each other. Hate is a strong word, dislike or
disaprove is probably what you're really feeling. Besides, everyone should
be able to express their opinions, and who are you or me to say that they
are wrong or assholes or whatever. Try discussing something with someone
before you flame the hell out of them! :)
BTW- anyone have an answer to my question from yesterday.... How strict
is the 18+ deal for NYE? How do they check, and can that be avoided..see
I'm only 17.
Thanks everyone. See you soon. Spoon as often as you can!

Watchtower

crf3@acpub.duke.edu Tue Nov 22 19:45:57 1994

Hey Minaretters...
everyone think about DMB's covers of Watchtower? Personally, I think
the band does a great job, and adds a little of their own flavor to the
song. But some of my friends think it's horrible and that DMB
destroyed the song. I'm not a big Jimi Hendrix fan, so I don't know his
version that well, or Bob Dylan's. Maybe I just am too into Dave to
dislike anything he sings... :-) That's cool
to all those 'regulars' who make minarets a friendly place, unlike some
other nets I've read. I'm hoping someone stops me (unlikely) from writing
an endless message. I think I'm the only one left in my dorm (slight
exaggeration). Everyone's left for Thanksgiving Break, and I'm leaving
for New York tomorrow evening. It's lonely here at Duke. Someone e mail
me. No, I'm really not pathetic, I promise...happy thanksgiving.

access? I downloaded lyrics.txt from the same place without a problem.

TOO Much to Say

74167.3051@compuserve.com Tue Nov 22 21:56:29 1994

While I enjoy everyone's comments, I need to cancel my minarets subscription
-- you've all TOO much to say, and I haven't the time. But I don't know how
to cancel. PLEASE ADVICE.

I subscribe to other music lists where an "editor" distributes a daily digest
highlighting the days conversation/news so subscribers don't have to get into
"personal" conversation or read old news. Does minarets have this? Any
volunteers? If not, someone please on canceling. (Or you'll be reading more
wsted notes like this). Much thanks.

don't know how to access the faq file. Can someone explain what buttons i
push and what they mean. ( I don't mind being flamed as a newbie. I need
the attention anyway). THanks in advance.

DMB in DC

jdinatal@capcon.net Wed Nov 23 12:33:18 1994

Just ordered my tickets for the Bender show. It is general admission --
it should be very chaotic. The place is a basically the size of a very
large high school gym. Watch out for the phone charge fee of 4.75 per
ticket on a 20.00 ticket. Thats 25% of the ticket price!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

11/11/94 tree

jdinatal@capcon.net Wed Nov 23 13:47:06 1994

I'm trying to contact my parent for this recent DMB tree -- his address is
listed as ALLGOD@UMICH.EDU. If this is you or if the address is
incorrect please let me know. I would like to avoid all possible hitches
that could slow this tree down. Thanks!

jcmuniz@binkley.cs.mcgill.ca Wed Nov 23 14:10:10 1994

Tickets for the Dec. 30 show at the Bender Arena in DC
went on sale this morning. They're $20. I remember running
up to the Bayou last Thanksgiving weekend at 7 pm to buy
tix for the show that same night for 7 dollars.

By the way, it's general admission.

Re: Zollman's or Zeilmans?

cbuford@liberty.uc.wlu.edu Wed Nov 23 16:50:31 1994

It's this one...

 Zollman's Pavillion, Lexington, VA or

and yes there is an apostrophe because Mr.Zollman owns it and rents it to
us kind hearted W&L students....hehehe.....There are about 4 shows from
here (1-30-93,3-6-93 daytime which i dont think exists on tape, 6-1-93 i
think it was our Senior party, and 10-31-93) just for your info. There is
also the Pavillion, which the school owns, which was the site of the
Superdance show with ALLGOOD mentioned earlier this month...
