Hi there, this is my first post so I hope it goes well. . The Met cafe in providence holds about 100 people, and that is probably violating some fire laws. Also, the Ben and Jerry's Newport Folk Festival is going on that weekend. Sat a nd Sun from 11:00- 6:30. Michelle Shocked, Indigo Girls, Arlo Guthrie, Fairport Convention, Randy Newman beutiful Newport RI. ONly 30 mins from Providence (with traffic(cars, not the b and)). Anyway I thought that if others are going we can get together and trade some tapes. Hopefully Ill be taping at least one of the shows. is anyone going to nantucket? Its sort of a haul to get there, and no place to camp, and expensive, but I would go if I could find people to go with. No one h ere wants to pay for ferry/hotel/food on the island. This is sticky. Jeff doesn't always have extra outlets so I suggest bring a surge suppressor for everyone. Sometimes people bring them and sometimes not and I've not been able to record one show becuase of that reason. It was a bad deal. But the up side is that you can get excellent sounding recordings with a good deck and correct recording levels. GrahamTop Permalink
i would definitely agree with graham on bringing your own surge protector. even if everyone brings their own producing five extra outlets per person, i'd be willing to bet that power on brown's island will be sparse, seeing as it is all produced from a single generator behind the stage. i found extra outlets were scarce at trax, with people plugging into all corners of jeff's equipment, but if all the tapers work together with the right number of power strips, then you'll only need a single plug from jeff, and he's always had that much. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink
This is my first entrance into the dorkdom of E-mail- I heard that this is a Dave Matthews Band number from somebody who works at RCA and is quite hard for the band. i've seen these guys in New York and saw Dave in South Africa and I have to admit they (he) groove. So write back and tell me what's up.Top Permalink
Humph, at guitar world yesterday, this guy told me that RCA is a bad bad bad label for rock bands. The problem is, they have no popular ones, and the good ones they have they don't hype/promote at all. oh well. he also told me this hilarious story abut interviewing chan from blues traveler and having popper come into the room. hee hee. i laughed. anyway, later. gotta go. Well I couldn't make the show Sunday, but some of my friends drove the 5 hours from Gainesville. They don't have much in the way of details, other than the show was outside at Masquerade Park, Jellyroll and Everything were the opening bands, and Dave played a little under two hours. I asked them about the songs, they said he introduced "Say Goodbye" as one coming off their new CD, which he said would be out Sep. 27. My friends recognized most of the tunesbut did say there were 6-7 tunes they didn't recognize, although they don't know much more than R2T and Recently. Reading this post, I realize there's not much good info in it. Oh well... They had a good time--I was jealous I couldn't make it. Any other netters from Atlanta there that can expound?? Brian P.S. Alex, if you're out there, will you be at the Everything show in Gainesville Friday?Top Permalink
Hey all! This is my first message Im writing on this mailing list, so I send you all a hearty hello! Anyhow, I just got tickets to see Dave here in W-S, NC at Ziggys. Im excited because its a VERY small place- smaller even than Trax in Charlottesville where I used to go see Dave every Tuesday night. I figure that because he's getting so big, it will become a rare event to see him at small clubs. Anyhow, does anyone have any words to the wise on how to go about taping the show? Do you need any equipment? or can you just give a blank tape to someone? Ive never done it before... thanks for your time! KristinTop Permalink
Im going this afternoon to get my tickets for the 6th in Providence. I am stoked I found out that Ill have to work in New Jersey Q-( on the 5th so i cant go the paradise(bummer). BUT, someone told me FROM GOOD HOMES is playing in NYC that night. So that coul d be cool. Anyway, Im going to be in Burlington this weekend, and was wondering if anyone knows of good MTN Biking trails in the area, or whats happening Saturday nite. Later, MikeTop Permalink
Thought this might be of interest to some people. If you are coming 95 north or south look for the same 195 Powhite parkway exit, if yu are coming 64 east, take the 5th street downtown exit, and go straight till you hit the river, turn left and you shoulf find it... You are coming in to Richmond via 64 east. As you near town you will see three signs I-95 north to DC (left lane), 64 East to Williamsburg (Center lane) and 195 south to Powhite parkway (Right lane), you want 195. Bear left and take the Downtown expressway (It costs 35 cents but suck it up) After the toll you will take the 7th and 9th street exit. When you get off you want to take your first left (browns island is to the right, but you cant turn right there) basically go around the block (making sure you don't get back on the interstate and the next corner) and turn right where you where originally. There will be little brown Browns Island signs and a bunch of people. irving plaza is small, hot, and by the middle of the first set, i had little room to breath. still, it was a great show, but it was one set! granted, one really long set (i'm guessing about an hour & a half), but it was a bit of a disappointment. Anyway, for the curious, I didn't write a setlist, but I have a basic one sweet world, satellite, billies, jane, best of what's around, say goodbye, dancing nancies, typical situation, warehouse, Jimi thing (where it sounded like the lyrics were 'tunnel called jimi'), watchtower (set closer, really really good). overall a very tight show, everyone was pretty much playing great. The bass was WAY WAY too loud, and the overall level really kinda hurt my ears... next time ear plugs may be a necessity. humph. for now, the only way i know of to get the tab file is to have some kind soul mail it to you, and i am a kind soul, i just don't have it. perhaps ben? also, after getting into a debate with ben(with somewhat surreal language) on the validity of smurfs existance (actually, it was one of those debates where we both agreed that they do exist, we just argued for the sake of arguing) i find myself wondering, do smurfs die, and if they do, who do you think will get to replace papa smurf's as head honcho when he retires to the great smurf in the sky. i say it's farmer smurf. As long as we're on Smurfy Dave things, I'm currently listening to the tapes of the Brown's Island show and I think they're really tight. The song list could have left something to be desired, though...Satellite, Two Step, Ants, Say Goodbye, Warehouse, Dancing Nancies, Seek Up, Jimi Thing, Jane, Rhyme and Reason, and Tripping Billies. I would've like to seen Best or Lover, but I think I'll get quite my fill of those two when the cd comes out. Rhyme and Reason will be on it as well, also Say Goodbye. There will be a full band Dancing Nancies, and I hear that the sax on What Would You Say is phenomenal. Jimi Thing will be on there as well. Dave told me that some of the arrangements have been played around with to make things a bit more interesting, and John Popper guests on What Would... (I think that's the song). In my personal opinion, I think the Two Step today was the best one they did, and that Satellite is WAY too f*%#$@* slow. Oh well... Back to Smurfy Dave things, how bout... "...do as you please, I'll Smurf you up..." "...turns out, it's not where, but who you Smurf that really matters..." "...could I have been dancing Smurfie..." "...In the spotlight, life is so Smurfy, la la la la la..." "...blue and blue and rainbow, five colors in my eyes, Smurfies, Smurfies, what have we done with it, oh Smurfies, what are we doing in here..." and, last but not least, the cd...Dismember Blue Smurfs. That's about all for now, except, damn this Satellite is slow. For those of you who have a tape with satellite on it when Peter was in the band, take that speed, and cut it in half. It's about 2/3 the speed it was on the cd...it's tight, but if you can't make it tight with it that slow, then something's wrong. Oh well... that's all for now... WadeTop Permalink

I DIDN'T RAISE MY HAND!!!! i was only suggesting a person who might have it on hand. Isn't shawn Chords File Chairman, CEO, and Intern? yes, and along with the other two thirds of normal college type people, he went to subsist off of his parents income, instead of sitting around his college town living off of baked potatoes and ramen noodles (yes, ben, this will be you one day). in other words, he played it smart, but got cut off from his net access in the process. The song list could have left something to be desired, though at this day and age, this sentence being included in an internet post on the dave matthews band is known in the literary circles as a "tautology." (that's not to say i'm a member of any literary circle. my english paper came back today with the comment "so, what's your point?") "...do as you please, I'll Smurf you up..." taken out of context this sounds like it was uttered by snoop smurfy smurf. "...turns out, it's not where, but who you Smurf that really matters..." MORAL MAJORITY CRIES FOUL. is there anywhere a decent, god- fearing american citizen can go without such outrageous, phallic comments? what is this "smurfing" you speak of anyway. ohhhhhhh, the children of today's society....wicked. from a very outspoken minarets netter. "under the table and dreaming?" hmmmmm. sounds suspiciously like something i don't want to be involved in BUT...i'm prone to say that it's going to be a damn good cd, nonetheless. if he wants to name it after the moment where his voice cracks if he's drunk, that's his pre-rogrative. but i have better name for it. sort of like the practice of let's call it "songs that everyone wants to hear" hey, it was dave's idea. told me about it in november. but i doubt he remembers. the guy was so hyped up on coffee i thought he was going to explode. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

feeling I will be mouring the loss of another great solo tune. this is a comment appearing all to frequently on the net. i'll be amazed if we see much of a solo dave matthews ever again. when you take dave's 25 (+ or -) years and sum them up, you'll probably find that he's spent the majority of it wishing he was in a band, and he now has that. i really don't think he ever played those opening set strictly for our enjoyment (which no musician should), but simply to occupy himself and to test his music on a prospective audience. trey all intimate with his acoustic, do you? i don't know that trey ever did, but i really think that dave has worked really hard to be a part of "the dave matthews band", not "the dave mattews band featuring dave matthews." don't get me wrong, i enjoy seeing dave solo as much as anybody else, but i think that he's ready to consolidate himself with his band now. no more of the certain alienation from the rest of the band that playing for 20 minutes, in the spotlight, by yourself to warm up can produce. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

by the way, i think rhyme & reason is a shoe-in, and so is #34. #34 or #36? probably #36 Hey y'all. This message is way old, but I've got a few questions about o Was #34 written solely in memory of Miguel, or was it dedicated to his memory at 3/7/93 while the song was played before that? o Does anyone know the words for #36. Dave is definitely saying something, and I was wondering if his is just ad-libbing during what is really an instrumental, or is he mumbling the same words every time they play the tune. o Where do these numbers come from? IN OTHER NEWS . . . I spent about 2 and a half weeks in South Africa during July. It's a lovely country. I wore my dave solo shirt about six times (at least once in each of the five cities I visited) and not a SINGLE person saiud anything to me. I also scoured record stores from Cape Point to Kruger, but there was nothing available under Dave Matthews. Does anyone know what Dave was up to before he came to the USA; and when was that, by the way? --Ben Look for a Harvard '97 in front at the Providence show!Top Permalink
gotta love yeats..... okay... from what i understand, the reason for the numbered songs is that each particular song was the 34th one, or the 36th song by the band. maybe someone can shed a little more light on this if they've got any inside skinny. words for 36. yes... they're in my possession. i've got a rendezvous with our lyric/faq ceo tonight... and i'll let him know i'll be mailing him the transcription. so it'll be in the lyrics file next time rick sends it out... patience is called upon. two step will also be in the file, so all we need now is the lyrics for 34 to make our file complete. anyone? anyone? just mail'em to rick ...... one thing i'll divulge about 36..... dave is singing, 'honey honey, come and dance for me....' who's gonna be jammin at w-s with me on the 9th? I do? from what i understand, the reason for the numbered songs is that each particular song was the 34th one, or the 36th song by the band. maybe someone can shed a little more light on this if they've got any inside skinny. the skinny from Carter was that both of these songs are about friends of Daves that died (Miguel Valdez and Christopher Honiey, I'm positive that they're both spelled wrong, my apologies to the deceased..) anyway, Honiey was some kinda freedom fighter that died in the fight against aparthied (which leads me to believe that maybe he and Dave are High School chums or sumptin... one thing i'll divulge about 36..... dave is singing, 'honey honey, come and dance for me....' since the song is about a guy named Honiey (god I hate spelling his name wrong, promise me that when I die, you'll all spell MY name write on here) I think the line is Honiey Honiey, come and dance with me... who's gonna be jammin at w-s with me on the 9th? I wish... 'lean upon me, I'll lean upon you, we'll be okaaaayyyyyy....'Top Permalink
Hey Clair Emily (is that your first name or first and last? :) Just responding to your query--- I'll be in W-S on the 9th. Just moved here from charlottesville--- are you still at U of R? What year are you? Just wondering... got friends there. Be forewarned.. W-S sucks. But, Dave wont, and im very psyched to see the band, just finished 12 credits of grad school, im ready to let loose! see you there KristinTop Permalink
To respond to recent posts.... 1.Blacke Kambill (Didn't I spell it right...?) so of us thought you WERE dead for a while..... 2.Did you tune France into Dave, Ben? 3.Alas, I do mourn solo performance by Dave, but shovelheadchickensububergallekiowitz has a point, maybe I just need to see Dave and Tim, something I have had the pleasure of.....If anyone has more info about the Birchmere show and maybe some directions I'd appreciate it.... Also as dave says In the spotlight, life is so peachy 4.I have come to the conclusion that I have no idea what a tautology is, and therefore will be utterly confused. My feeling is, that while the setlist can usually lave somehting to be desired, there is a mathematical equation involved, ie. Dave has around 40 songs and various covers, we have seen dave around a zillion times. If dave plays a completely new setlist each night we can only see him four times until he repeats stuff, therefore shows will tend to be the same after a while. Of coure the only setlist that wouldn't leave anything to be desire for me is to hear everything in one huge 4 1/2 hour godsend for us tapers miracle show, but I digress...... 5.Thanx to those (Gray) who provided me with Browns island setlist stuff, mybe we should start a dirtball net.... 6.I forgot... anyway gotta go cuz clare should be here any minute and I get to meet shovel with a chicken sub in his hair.... *-----------------------------------------------------------------------* |Chris "Boofy" Buford | |cbuford@liberty.wlu.edu P.O.Box 322 | |Washington and Lee University Lexington, Va. 24450 | | | | "The future is no place to place your better days..." | | | |v3.1 |-) David Matthews | *-----------------------------------------------------------------------*Top Permalink

First of all, the show was great. The Met Cafe in Providence is a VERY SMALL place. It was nice, and it was a little unique because behind the stage were these kind of glass doors (well, more like wooden doors with lots of panes of glass) and you could actually stand back there which definitely gave a really cool view of the whole band from behind, with the crowd facing them. The show was sold out, as was Friday night's show at the Paradise, from what I heard. Overall, I felt the setlist was very good. The crowd was into the show in a big way and I think the band really pulled out some intense playing in response to that. set 1: Satellite Two-Step-- Best of What's Around! Dancing Nancies Say Goodbye What Would You Say Tripping Billies set 2: Minarets One Sweet World Jimi Thing Rhyme and Reason Warehouse The Song That Jane Likes Lover Lay Down Ants Marching ("This is a first," Dave said. Then they played . . .) Nature (the Samples song) Recently Of course, you can look up my post from 4/15/94 and you'll see that they did soundcheck with "Nature" that day at the Orpheum Theater. So it was not REALLY a first, and it wasn't a first for me, but maybe in front of a whole mess of people it was their first time playing it. Everyone had a good laugh about it back in April (they were just figuring it out then) . . . They actually did it quite well last night. And if they had messed up most of the crowd was already too drunk or too tired to really notice. Hearing Leroi play a little bit of #34 between songs. I was screaming my head off but we didn't get lucky. They went into Lover instead. Hearing Two-Step--Best. Have they done that before? It looked to me like Dave just thought of it and told Carter before they started Two-Step. Dave had three broken strings by the end of Best; he was actually having problems with that the whole first set. Getting in free by being put on the guest list. Arriving home at dawn after a three and a half hour drive from Providence during which we listened to almost the whole show in the car. Scanning some cool photographs from Superjam. Lee Silverman (Phishnet Archivist) and I spent about three hours scanning a whole bunch of pictures that my friend Barry and I both took in Athens. Here's a list of the new stuff; you'll see the disk space the picture takes and what each one is called (the names are fairly self-explanatory-- they're all DMB except JB1 and JB&Todd). All the pictures are from Superjam 6/12/94, as I mentioned. They're in the /pub/Horde directory of archive.phish.net. Get there by anonymous FTP using your name as password. There are also some cool new Phish pix but I'm not sure where exactly Lee put those. ---- Enjoy. And if anyone knows how to get me into the Jones Beach HORDE to see Dave without paying 31.50 please mail me. --Ben Volks wat foute gewaar of enige People discovering errors or verbeteringe aan die hand wil wishing to suggest any improvementsTop Permalink

i don't know exactly where i heard it, but when miguel died, all of the local bands in c-ville agreed to write a song about him. #34 is the dave matthews band's end result. this is just hearsay, however, so don't hold me to it. and speaking of miguel, afrikan drumfest, the band(?) he was with is still doing things in the area. they played here in h-burg a few weeks ago, but i missed out. it's just a bunch of african americans together playing tribal rhythms, and they really blew me away the one time i saw them. they played a small indie-rock festival here at jmu two years ago, and almost stole the show, even though it was just four guys pounding on really nice handmade bongos. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

a freind of a freind of mine was at a coupla of northeastern shows, i'm not sure where (i don't pay attention to dates, 'cause i have no way of getting there or in, and don't care about them), but he said that they played a couple of new tunes. i would assume that 'nature' by the samples was one of them, 'cause said freind doesn't listen to the samples to my knowledge, but he didn't know another tune either, and as far as i know he's pretty knowledgeable on dmb setlists. and here's another stupid little anecdote. the dave matthews band has given me a propensity to really notice ants. two weeks ago, the radio station i work for was infested with 'em, and a few moments ago i noticed them crawling all up and down my arm (don't ask me where they came from), and all i could think about (aside from getting them off of me, that is) was "red and black antenna waving....." god help me. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

This is the lowdown on the Dave and Tim show at the Birchmere... It will be Thursday, August 25 at 8:00 pm at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va. Shannon Worrell will open up, and then Dave and Tim will play. Tickets are $13.50 each thru ticket bastard... I ran into Boyd Tinsley (quite literally) here in C'ville yesterday, and happened to mention the show while we were talking. He had know idea that the two of them were playing. Uh oh, I may have started something (with Dave going off to catch a quick buck without the band). Oh well. Oh did I mention that the seats were General Admission??? Well, i did now, and they are... See you all there...I'll be wearing an autographed Dave ET style shirt (their first and original shirt) at the show if anyone wants to say hey. Go out and buy the new Shannon Worrell cd. It's great. Guests buy Dave, Tim, Roi, and Kristen Asbury (among others). Really good stuff for those of you who aren't familiar with her stuff... Well, ok, love you, bye bye... WadeTop Permalink
Article3/4 of page 6 and 1/3 of page 8 in the Aug 11- Aug 17 (Charlottesville/Albemarle) Observer). "Media in 39 countries will now receive press releases and DMB CDs courtesy of RCA." Remeber Two Things, produced under an independant label, sold 90,000 copies. RCA's Flohr says the company is "elated" if an indie release sells 15,000. R2T will stay under Red Light distribution; Chris Tetselli reportedly expects UtTaD to bring more interest in R2T; i.e. why turn over to RCA what will later be worth more to us than it is to them now? Review, August 9, i think) in bankruptcy court. Yep. Chapter 11 (or is it 13?) and new owners will reopen the place this fall as the Charlottesville La-la and Sports Bar, or some lovely monicker like that. Ummm.... word from my cousin in Athens is that DMB tix go for 3-5 times face value _*IF*_ you can find one. Sounds like DMB needs a bigger Athens venue, and maybe 2 or 3 shows in a good solid run. God knows how much press, attention, fans, R2T sales, UtTaD coverage, fun, jams, buzzes, and soul 3 nights in a big Athens venue could bring! Anybody else want to plan a road trip for unannounced, unplanned, not-expected shows, just to be ready to roll when it happens? Anybody have a good line on how to get tix in Athens? Very stunning show last night here at 328 Performance Hall. I'll get a setlist up if anyone's interested. There were an amazing number of tapers last night. I've never seen 3 DATs at one DMB show, but also 6 tape decks. So, my boot needless to say has tons TONS (second one for impact) of breaks in it. Everyone was fucking with their volumes and tapes and etc. But, the band had fun. They said fer' definately that "Rhyme and Reason" was on the upcoming album (27th Dave also said). They also played Jimi THing and Best of What's Around so I'd assume those. Really intere3sting intros to a couple of songs but I'll have to listen to the tapes again to say. Oh, I've got the tab file but am working on it because it has quite a few errors in it. If anyone really needs it, I can send what I was sent, but it'd probably be easier to let me fix it first. This has absolutely nothing to do with the Nashville show, I'm just too lazy to send a new message...anyway The cd will contain (as was told to me by Jeff Bagby at the Brown's Isle show) Lover Lay Down Best of What's Around What Would You Say Say Goodbye Jimi Thing Rhyme and Reason A full band Dancing Nancies and Pay for What You Get the songs when I named them. Two Step most likey will not be on the New cd, because the band feel that it has most definitely lost something without the samba part with Peter and his keys. However, the songs that are appearing on the cd have been re-arranged, and I am told to expect some surprises with the arrangements. Although, for those of us who have been fortunate enough to have seen Dave and Co. recently, we know that Two Step has been re-done. Roi also takes much of an extended solo toward the end of Dancing Nancies, and Boyd plays the part that Roi used to play at the start of Jane. Would You Say, and both Jeff and Carter have said that Roi's sax solo on that song is mind blowing. To have this said by two different people coming from completely different aspects of the band, it MUST be good. All things considered, I would expect this to be a great cd. We have only a month and a half to wait and see. done Cry Freedom, Spotlight, or Eyes of the Maker recently??? I am told by a friend of mine that they do these songs every now and then, but the set lists I've seen lately have been devoid of these songs. I was talking to Carter backstage at BI, and we when we were discussing their older stuff, Carter said that "Just yesterday, when we were on the bus, we were looking at an old tape, and realized that there were like 20 songs that we had forgotten how to play." With this statement, I would tend to (I hope, atleast) to see some of those older songs come back. Adieu, WadeTop Permalink

Hello. I live in the Northwest - a bit removed from the whole DMB scene. Dave Matthews Band played up here for the first time last month and I made a soundboard recording that came out well. I have no idea how much interest there is in this thing, but I want to get it out into circulation if people want it. If there is enough interest, I will organize a tree. If not, then I will just set up individual trades. If you're interested, send me email and let me know if you can go DAT-DAT, DAT-cass, cass-cass or what. If there is enough interest, I will make a proper tree announcement and get more detailed information from everyone. Dave Matthews Band 7/17/94 The Backstage, Seattle, WA stereo soundboard - Denon DTR-80P DAT approx. 2 hours. Fits on a 2 hour DAT or 1.5 C90 cassette sides. instr. (sorry, I can't ID) One Sweet World Warehouse The Song That Jane Likes Dancing Nancies Pay For What You Get Lie in our Graves Jimi Thing Seek Up Tripping Billies All Along The Watchtower Satellite Ants Marching I'll Back You Up Recently Boyd got his violin smashed going through a 2-way swinging kitchen door to get to his dressing room before the encore. I was not on this mailing list in July so I don't know if there was any discussion at the time of this show. It was a party for RCA/BMG area reps from around the country, who were in Seattle for a meeting. They rented the Backstage (one of Seattle's top clubs) and bused in all the record company weenies (including the president of RCA). The plan was to open the doors to the general public at midnite. DMB started very late - at about 11:50, so the general public only missed about 10 minutes. My DAT, however, is complete. The record company buses left part way through the DMB set, leaving about 130 people who had come to the club because of word-of-mouth. It was my first DMB show, but compared to the other tapes I have heard, it was a good show (actually all the shows I have heard were good). RobTop Permalink

#36 - --- Since "ya'll" stoopid Suthnuh's have been discussing the LYRICS to #36 (why don't you guys and gals just go listen to the black crowes or something like the rest of "ya'll"), I figured I'd transcribe. I've known how to play this song for a while because uh... it's uh... easy. Probably one of the easier DMB songs. Considering there is one guitar part througout the ENTIRE song, I figured I would add some horn/violin parts for your viewing enjoyment. as a bona fide member of wxjm harrisonburg i was treated to the early release of rusted roots major label debut "when i woke." it's absolutely amazing!!! i heartily recommend it to anyone who even remotely likes dmb, even if you do hate gay bees. they're like a combo b/w talking heads (or more likely david byrnes himself) peter gabriel and just a dash of dave matthews band (the band as a whole, that is.) no two songs on the cd sound alike, making sure that you never get bored with it. from mariachi (well, maybe not) to afrikan tribal, to ethnic india, it has everything (with flute on about half the tracks.) there's been three bands who absolutely blew me away the very first time i heard them (and no, clare, the cure was not one of them), and they bands high i hold in immensely(sp?) high esteem these days (widespread, the cure, pwei, the band formerly known as "boy o boy") had to grow on me, but not rusted root. also, to the lurker who coined the term "antsy" in reference to dave withdrawal, i like that. i don't know if that counts for anything, but i do like it. i think we should make that a more common term around here. ____________________________________ "it is indeed a great gift of heaven\____________________________________ __________________________________ \_________________________________Top Permalink

Yesterday, I saw them live at the Richmond, VA Horde show and they were incredible. Played fopr only 30-40 mnins (second stage between BT and Allmans), but they blew the people away who were watching tyhem. Afterwards, I went up and talked with them for about 20 mins or so, told 'em how I found out about them and other typical 'You're Gods' talk, and found out they'll be at Randolph Macon College the first week of Oct.. Either the 2nd, 4th, or 5th, but probably the 2nd (he didn't know for sure). So, my only question is, where's RMC? :) Take care, Brett actually, take a look at my sig.. I just threw together a lot of initials that meant something to me, and the first one I came up with was... -- Brett Kingswell bkingswe@nyx.cs.du.edu / bmking@mail.wm.edu RR/BT/AB/DMB/HS/JW/BP/JL/JM/BL/M/TE/TS/TK/TL/M/GP/PF/PC/TX/VA/WM/J/4/????Top Permalink
Ok, I lied, my setlist is in Blake's car on the way back to Portsmouth along with my new Shannon Worrell CD. Ug! Anyway, it was a great show but too short. Hell they could still be playing now and it would be too short. I'll post the list when I get it back tomorrow. Jackson Hewitt Programmers do it in teams. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- InfiNet, L.C. | Hampton Roads' Premier Online Information SystemTop Permalink
Pay For What You Get, One Sweet World, Satellite, Tripping Billies (with the old intro), Dancing Nancies, Rhyme & Reason, I'll Back You Up, Recently, You Are My Sanity, Screaming From The Minarets, Typical Situation, Warehouse, What Would You Say, (another Tim jam), Ants Marching, Christmas Song Great show, it's a shame there was no taping. Shannon Worrell was fantasic, and like Wade, I highly reccomend the disc. If I were a cactus, I wouldn't need so much water!Top Permalink

Hey guys and gals... I was in vermont, and while at a super-big Barnes & Noble in Albany (though not as big as the huge ones here in N.Y.C.), and I played around with one of those Muze machines... weeeeeeeeee, I checked like 20 bands, and randomly picked Dave, thinking maybe the new CD would come up or whatever, and Remember 2 Things was listed. It said they didn't have it, but it had a song tripping billies = tripping blues minarets = minarels what is a minarel? whatever it is, it sounds very circular. big arching circles that you can only properly see when you are sitting on the steps of a church drunk out of your mind. at least that's what i saw. Minarels coming in from everyside. Ay carumba. minarets = minarels what is a minarel? Isn't that like rocks and minarels? Or is it as in "Fortified with 11 essential vitamins and minarels"? -DaveTop Permalink
Greetings all!!! Like Gray, I too got the opportunity to see the Dave and Tim show at the Birchmere. I sat right in front of the stage, and snagged the set list as soon as they were finished playing thjesus song... For those interested, this is the name of the Tim song that Gray didn't have--Letting It Go. It was a most excellent show, and my condolences to those who couldn't make it. Dave flubbed the words to Desperate Hours REAL BAD. It was funny. Right before they played Watchtower, I yelled for them to play "Drive In, Drive Out", and Dave said to me, "HEY!! I know you!!! You always ask for that song!! Trust me, when I remember it, I'll play it for you!!" That was my little highlight of the show. I apologize to those who have written me and I haven't responded, as I was in NoVa all last week, and just got back in town last night. Schlong, WadeTop Permalink

i was almost sure the cover of the album was a painting. And if i remember correctly a painting looking upward at one of those rides with a bnuch of chairs attached with chains to a structure in the center that spins around. [what's the name of those?] I'd also heard that the painting was just a random picture out of a larger book full of similiar artwork that anyone could browse. If there was something that interests you then you could contact the company or artist and offer to buy the original/rights. I may be off the rocker, i'm not all together sure. alex crothers The cover is a picture of an amusement ride from underneath it. It was taken by a friend of Dave's Hmmm? Maybe. Over&Out... Hi everyone. This is an announcement for SPREADNET, the Widespread Panic mailing list. The list is being run off the netspace computer at Brown University. As many of you already know, this computer was bought mostly with funds contributed by the users of Phishnet. There's currently plenty of space on the machine (well, not plenty, but enough for one more mailing list!) and lots of different projects are going on. You may have seen Bruce Willner's announcement that the HordeNet Tour Dates file is available by FTP? Well, it's in the Horde directory on Netspace. Or all that good stuff on the Phish archive? That's in the Phish directory on Netspace. Anyway, to subscribe to spreadnet, send mail to with the body of the message being (no quotes) To send mail to everyone on the list, send mail to Well, that's it. I'm probably going to post this message about once a week so all those folks coming back to school get a chance to see it. Any questions or problems or whatever-- send me mail (btanen@netspace.students.brown.edu). Bye for now, BenTop Permalink
I just placed the connection. Maybe I'm slow, but Shannon Worrell was the singer for Paris Match. Does anyone have any Paris Match tapes. Gray If I were a cactus, I wouldn't need so much water!Top Permalink
I have lost an extremely good tape and can't remeber where I got it so I am asking all of you out there if you have ever heard of it. I have it listed as Oct 27 1992 at Trax and setlist as follows Blue Water One Sweet World So Much 2 Say What Would You Say Pay 4 What You get Lie in our graves Tripping Billies Stephan's Tune (you can faintly hear dave say this before they play it, its a really cool instrumental with Stephan, Pter and Boyd jamming hard) Jimmy Thing Recently Ants Marching Watchtower (best one I've ever heard) Dancing Nancies If anyones got his I would love to get a copy. I've got about 25 to trade. Also, anyone know the date of the Election Night at Trax tape??? I saw you at the Birchmere show. Nice shirt. Now something everyone should find slightly more interesting- A prevoius post said that there was no taping at the show. A friend of mine was pulled off the board by the Birchmere people at the last minute, but taped the show at his table on his dat through mics. Because the place was incredibly quiet, the tape came out pretty well. I would be happy to set up a trade with any interested parties as soon as he sends me my analog copies (he's using the DMB set at the Maryland HORDE as filler). If you're interested, I'm looking for- 1. The Phish Lexington show 4/20- both sets. 2. Any very recent dmb (summer '94). Also- I talked to Dave after the show about the new album. He told me that Ants Marching and Satellite will appear again, in addition to the tunes already listed. He also told me that the version of Jimi Thing is "ridiculous," so it sounds like there will be some great jamming on that. I also spoke briefly to him about fall dates- There is an Oct. 3 New Haven show, and he also told me the band will be in other previously neglected northern locations (Providence and Boston are the only ones I remember). Anyway- welcome back to school, if you're returning.Top Permalink
First, apologies for using the net for doing this, but I don't have access to any of the things I had on my old computer from the past few years, so please indulge me. I also know there's someone who handles this, but I don't have the FAQ, either. So anyway, I was hoping someone could tell me where to find the lyrics file if it's available on FTP.. Also, could someone send me info on the new album? I missed all the summer discussion. Thanks a bunch. brett -- bmking@mail.wm.edu // bkingswe@nyx10.cs.du.eduTop Permalink

Yeah; Gray's righton both counts. Shannon Worrell _did_ sing for Paris Match; saw them my first night in Cville six or so years ago. And, Does anyone have Paris Match tapes? Now, _theres_ a cool smalltown band that needs to be treed, or fillered onto some other Hordish tree. Revival! Yeah! We'll start a revival! :) The Paris Match Reunion World Tour!! :) Seriously, if anyone has some, I'd love to trade, and will go out of my way to make it worthwhile; as many times as i saw them, i feel ashamed not to have any on tape, and sorry not to be able to listen to any such tapes. Heck, I see Dennis (lead guitarist) on the Charlottesvill Downtown Mall every day or two; I don't even have anything of him on tape. He's hot. Anyone have Dennis Guinan (sp?) boots? :) ellis FAQ File Administrator for rec.music.phish & phish-digestTop Permalink
Ellis, I have on tape from my first Van Ripers in 88 where Shannon & Dennis play Eyes of The World with Indy. Can't remember how the quality is, it's been a long time. I'll let you know. shannon worrell was one of the people who played at the wtju 1994 folk marathon at eh prism coffeehouse in c-ville on may 7. on the tape of this i have, i've got her singing 'eleanor' and 'jane' on which dave sings backup. it's just him and her. adn she sings backup for dave on 'i'll back you up and christmas song' and i've never heard a better 'c-mas' song than this one with her harmonizing. it truly makes the song sound dreamy. everybody missed a super four way tag. it was truly and interesting experience. tsk.tsk. it could have been a beautiful relationship...... okay... smile people. i like smiles. and eat a blue popscicle, too... that's fun. clare emily ******************************************************************************** ' ********************************************************************************Top Permalink
