Dave Matthews appeared at a press conference and announced that DMB would be part of a series of free global concerts called "Live 8" which are scheduled to take place on July 2nd. "Live 8" concert will be held simultaneously in Philadelphia, PA; London, England; Rome, Italy; Paris, France and Berlin, Germany.
The "Live 8" concerts are part of the ONE countdown to the G8 Summit to urge President Bush and other leaders of the world's 8 wealthiest nations to save millions of lives when they meet together in Scotland July 5-8, 2005.
Other headliners for Live 8 include Will Smith (host), 50 Cent, Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Kaiser Chiefs, Keith Urban, Maroon 5, P Diddy, Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachlan, and Stevie Wonder.
On July 13, 1985 the original "live Aid" took place in London, Philadelphia, Sydney, and Moscow. Performers at Philadelphia's JFK stadium included Bernard Watson, Joan Baez, The Hooters, The Four Tops, Billy Ocean, Black Sabbath, Run DMC, Rick Springfield, REO Speedwagon, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Judas Priest, Bryan Adams, The Beach Boys, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Simple Minds, The Pretenders, Santana, Pat Methany, Ashford & Simpson, Teddy Pendergrass, Madonna, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Kenny Loggins.
