Minarets is winding down with its shut down on May 5th, I wish everyone a happy summer. This is the THIRD time I have posted this, for all that know how to unsubscribe because they kept the faq or just know how, all the power to you. READ THE FAQ ** IT HAS ALL THE INFO ON HOW TO DO THIS!!! ** 1) it doesn't matter. when the net gets shut down, the mailing list 2) UNSUBSCRIBE MINARETS won't work anyway. it has to UNSUB, not UNSUBSCRIBE. I am looking for the first bootleg I ever listened to. I don't know the date or venue, but I am guessing that it is at Trax or the floodzone, all I really remeber is some of the Dave speak. They do a very long version of Jimi Thing, where in the end Dave introduces the band, in a really really cool way. I remeber Satellite being on it, also Angel from Montgomery, Watchtower. If anyone knows what show this is, please e-mail, and we can set up some kind of trade. I am looking for an hq copy of it, so that would be cool to. Hos ps. oh yeah, if helps, Peter plays on this one, it is pretty old!Top Permalink

A few weeks past I set up a trade with somebody. I recieved his tapes and taped my tapes to send to him and unfortunately i lost his adress so i had to wait till he e mailed me back to get his adress. I went away for a weekend and recieved this letter from him when I returned. getting pissed off. Do you intend to make good on your half of our trade? Well, I didn't want to resort to this but I feel like I must. YOU ARE A DIRTY JEW BASTARD! YOUR CHEAP - ASS PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE ALL BEEN EXTERMINATED IN WORLD WAR TWO. IF HITLER HAD SUCCEEDED, THERE WOULDN'T BE JEWISH ASSHOLES LIKE YOUR SORRY ASS ON OUR NET. HITLER IS ALIVE AND WELL MOTHERFUCKER, AND HE'S LIVING IN THE HOUSE NEXT TO YOU!! ARE TWO FUCKING TAPES TWO EXPENSIVE FOR YOUR SORRY ASS? I SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRADED WITH A FUCKING KIKE IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHY DON'T YOU HAVE ANOTHER BAGEL JEWBOY. Mad and getting madder- Dave Dimatties PO Box 6616 Winston - Salem, NC 27109 910 - 759 - 6416 dimatdm3@wfu.edu I recieved that letter from him. It was quite painful for me to read this being quite an observant jew and humanitarian. This stuff should not be tolerated on the net. I felt horrible that I didn't get his tapes out early and planned to send him some extra tapes for the delay but when I read this letter I was shocked. This person is not getting the point of the music and what it represents. I URGE YOU TO EMAIL HIM AND WRITE LETTERS TO HIM EXPLAINING HOW WRONG THIS PREJUDICE ACT IS. I WOULD ALSO ADVICE NEVER TO TRADE WITH HIM. PLEASE HELP ME OUT BY WRITING AS MUCH MAIL TO THIS PERSON TILL HE REALIZES HIS WRONGS. ME CANT LET THIS HAPPEN ON OUR NET.Top Permalink

THE BEST OF WHAT'S AROUND TAPE TREE STRUCUTRE *** What's this? The Best of What's Around Tape Tree structure. I tried to email everyone personally using a crudely developed mail distribution program -- but -- well, I just don't think all the mail made it through as it should, so as was suggested to me, I figured I had better post the structure on Minarets just in case. Sorry if some of you are getting this twice (or three, or four times! :) ). and all we may run into problems with this tape tree. Now that minarets is going under for awhile, more problems may come about. So, I have decided to get this underway. The tree structure is ready. It should jeff | |-branch leader1 | |-parent1 (child1 of branch leader 1) | | |-child1 of parent1 | | |-child2 of parent1 | | |-childx of parent1 | | | |-parent2 (child2 of branch leader 1) | | |-child1 of parent2 | | |-childx of parent2 | | | |-parentx of branch leader1 | |-branch leaderx So the branch leaders will get their copies directly from me. Parentx will get their copy from their respective branch leader and childx will get their copy from their respective parent. Should be pretty understandable. *** HERE IS WHAT EVERYONE NEEDS TO DO *** Everyone get in contact with the person you will be getting your tape from and set up your trades -- whether it be for a blank or for a concert or whatever. Let's do this now while everyone has email access. Make sure to get people's snail mail addresses if they will be losing access. Now! Children -- if you can't get a hold of your parent -- email me so I can patch up the tree. Parents -- if you can't get a hold of your branch leader, again, please email me so I can fill in the holes. *** PROBLEM ONE *** Okay, I will be sending out the branch leader's tapes by Friday at the latest. I know, this kinda sucks that they are not already out, but I am waiting on one tape that I hopefully should get in the mail tomorrow so that I can complete the seed. (There is a really good version of Granny out there and it just has to be on this tape). *** WHAT IF I SCREWED UP? *** Okay more than likely someone signed up and I screwed up and forgot to put you on the tree. If so, I apologize, email me and I'll try to remedy the situation! *** THE SEED *** Is one 100 minute tape. I am keeping the setlist a suprise :). *** BRANCH LEADERS *** Please email me if you haven't already. *** THE TREE *** jjgoke@cs.csbsju.edu (seed metal no dolby) | |-cdeluci@hubcap.clemson.edu | |-PVXD93C@mail.prodigy.com | | |-jle@acpub.duke.edu (til may 10) / jeffrem@aol.com (summer) | | |-lmgar@conncoll.edu | | |-HarrisJD96%CS25%USAFA@cadetmail.usafa.af.mil | | |-lab4p@virginia.edu | | | |-Hallogallo@aol.com | | |-ejsills@ucdavis.edu | | |-schwm@freenet.scri.fsu.edu | | |-cmackay@acnet.wheaton.edu | | |-becksteb@lahs.losalamos.k12.nm.us | | | |-wandres@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu | | |-ddemari@hubcap.clemson.edu | | |-hauser@server.chem.ufl.edu | | | |-Bedicta@aol.com | |-dasmith@plains.nodak.edu | |-045568250@UCIS.VILL.EDU | |-Justin_M._Purnell@newc.com | |-cn1100@coastalnet.com | |-spc@acpub.duke.edu | |-l_leclai@hamlet.uncg.edu | | |-mbrukman@students.wisc.edu | | |-JordanW631@aol.com | | |-jb5j@watt.seas.virginia.edu | | |-sherritp@RoseVC.Rose-Hulman.Edu | | | |-cmixson@acpub.duke.edu | | |-suwanjin@ucsu.colorado.edu | | |-katrine@eecs.umich.edu | | |-agbra@conncoll.edu | | |-olga@email.unc.edu | | | |-dans@cloud9.net | |-sae2x@darwin.clas.virginia.edu | |-csantill@abacus.bates.edu | |-AECL05B@prodigy.com | |-BaeuC@aol.com | |-ONE11@aol.com | |-RYMW77B@prodigy.com | |-apg9067@is2.NYU.EDU | | |-abs@student.umass.edu | | |-csannes@gas.uug.arizona.edu | | |-murmur@grove.ufl.edu | | |-3ME4CRITTEND@VMS.CSD.MU.EDU | | | |-bjmoon@indy.net | | |-jjharm@mail.wm.edu | | |-kmarsh@puffin.Marymount.EDU | | |-earoney@princeton.edu | | | |-30OSSI@CUA.EDU (that's 3-zero-the letter O-SSI@CUA.EDU) | | |-ricky@magicnet.magicnet.net | | |-Ed.Suwanjindar@Colorado.EDU | | |-kjkaiser@nwu.edu | | | |-lund4649@blue.UnivNorthCo.EDU | |-ingraje@Eng.Auburn.EDU | |-hknudsvi@badlands.NoDak.edu | |-dhoconno@uiuc.edu | |-THaughton@aol.com | |-Segreedoug@aol.com | | |-briggdl9@wfu.edu | | |-mbv4m@darwin.clas.virginia.edu | | |-JMF5381@ACS.TAMU.EDU | | |-lrittbe@emory.edu | | | |-peter@nadir.wustl.edu | | |-psjacobs@artsci.wustl.edu | | |-Chewie77@aol.com | | |-pmod@magicnet.magicnet.net | | |-pkkernan@netcom.com | | | |-RTOOLE@MUSIC.CC.UGA.EDU | | |-Sasha_Issenberg@horacemann.pvt.k12.ny.us | | |-rtrim@magicnet.net | | |-estewart@abacus.bates.edu | | | |-alderfer@vt.edu (until May 10) Alderfer@aol.com (summer) | |-kowalski@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu | |-wkersh@ezmail.ucs.indiana.edu | |-JenSin@aol.com | |-Hawk56@aol.com | |-mcghie@nerdc.ufl.edu | |-andynyc@panix.com | | |-Eric.Schwobe@m.cc.utah.edu | | |-aricha@freenet.scri.fsu.edu | | |-m983534@hughes.nadn.navy.mil | | | |-Jostheim@vt.edu | | |-phenning@vt.edu | | |-CHAMBLINJ@tiger.hsc.edu | | |-dweiner@AGSM.UCLA.EDU | | | |-bmking@mail.wm.edu | |-Ischaefer@aol.com | |-jnadler951@aol.com | |-slo590@lulu.acns.nwu.edu | |-jrbolton@COLBY.EDU | |-dek2@lehigh.eduTop Permalink

Pant.... Ohhhhhh the pain!!! No more minarets! Life goes on, but sometimes with a really sour taste in your mouth. I think Alex was on tour with the band too much, that's why this list is dying. 8-) Well, at least there is no more debate about non-Dave talk on the net, it's all over now (Baby Blue). So Friday our entire little e-mail world gets wiped off the face of computing. I had hoped to spend the summer filling tape offers and spreading happiness, I guess I will have to find some other way to do it.... Does this mean I am exilled back to Phish.net agian? Say it ain't so!!! Anyone else with summer access, I will be here all summer, PLEASE fell free to drop me a line... it gets lonely out here in CO. Somewhere Waldo is laughing at us. Let them laugh, I've always wanted to be a clown. Peace Posts Beer BradTop Permalink
Sorry to waste the bandwidth but I thought I would jump on the current bandwagon of groveling for trades for summer. If anyone is going to be in the Triad section of NC or anywhere in the SE actually for the summer and would like to do some trading, large or small, please contact me soon because I will lose email on Friday. Your list gets mine. One other thought. As I was reading everyone's posts, I wondered how many people were studying for finals while listening to Dave on the headphones. I know I have been for the last week. When it seems like everything else sucks and is falling on you at once, it is good to have a constant around like Dave's music, to keep you going. It has helped me. I haven't gone to bed in three days now and I still have three more finals. Good luck to everyone with finals and see you next fall on Minarets.Top Permalink
Hey there everyone, I guess this will be my last post. I'm looking for any new years shows besides 94/95. I would love to hear any others if there are any out there. I have over 30 hours of HQ DMB to trade some phish and BT also. If anyone is interested, please mail me. oh ya....I'm going to see Dave in about 48 hours in Olympia, WA - I'm so excited I think I just peed in my pants jonasTop Permalink
This apparently didn't make it the first time I sent it, so here it is Hi everyone... this is my first post to Minarets. I was introduced to DMB by a friend who was introduced to them by a DJ at a bar sometime last year. Anyway, she played UTTAD for me and I loved it and went out and bought it and we found out there was a local DMB show really soon that was already sold out so we went down anyway and looked for someone with extra tickets. Well, I locked my keys in the car and there were a *lot* of people like us (looking for tix), but we did manage to find someone who sold us a pair at face value so we got in and it was incredible. Anyway, it was 12/30/94 and if anyone taped it I'd love to get a copy. I don't have anything to offer in return but maybe someone will be overly generous to this newbie. :) thought was really cool, but it's not on either of my CDs. Can anybody tell me the name of this song? Heck, if anyone has a setlist for 12/30/94, that would be really cool. I have UTTAD and RTT but not Recently (yet). I love every damn song on both CDs, but I think my favorite (right now anyway) is Typical Situation. Hey.. has anybody else noticed that the new Collective Soul song, December, sounds a LOT like Rhyme & Reason? First time I heard it I thought it was DMB. WWYS is getting old already -- what's DMB's next release going to be? What songs have been "released" already? I think WHFS around here used to play Satellite around the time I was getting into DMB, so I guess that's already been released. What's a bagby? Those little tiny builder guys on Fraggle Rock were the coolest. complaining, how about contributing something that you think Minarets should be about? If you take out all of the posts that aren't about set lists, tapes, etc. you'd be left with almost NOTHING. And that's not the fault of the people who *are* posting, no matter what they may be posting. That's the fault of the people who *aren't* posting set lists, tapes, trivia, or whatever. Okay, I'm done. Time for lunch...Top Permalink
Please keep in mind when joining any list or first reading a news group that it's wise to keep a low profile until you figure out the dynamics of the group or list. HORDE is not a place where people post the kinds of mail that is posted here. The majority of stuff is tour dates or new band recommendations. Occassionally, there is a thread that lasts for 5 or 6 mail messages about a music related topic but it is very rare and most people on the list prefer the low volume of the list. I think 'low volume' is the key word. klongTop Permalink
Helllooooooo....... a lot of you know that already!! It reminded me a lot of a similar local Burlington band, Freefall. Soooooo....in honor of our last days on minarets I'll copy Freefall's CD "primal youth" for all those interested. Soooooo.....if you are a big TR3 fan or just want to expand your musical horizons, it's definitely worth checking out! The problem is that it fits on one side of a 100 min and I'm not sure what to put on the other side. ??? Could leave it blank and you fill it yourself or could put some DMB (5/5/92 @ WTJU Studio C-ville possibly???) Well....I'll leave it up to you decide! kelly hale HBPL-Dept of Psychiatry Univ. of Vermont 38 Fletcher Place Burlington, VT 05401-1419 -please be sure to put a note telling me who you are, where you live, and what you want (whether you want side B left blank or filled) Have a great summer! later, kelly kelly.hale@uvm.eduTop Permalink
Daniel Lanois is a musician and producer based in the New Orleans area. He has produced the biggest of the big---Dylan, U2, Neville Bros, etc and adds a shimmerring, almost heavenly quality to his projects. He has two CDs, both of which are very good. I heard him in a radio concert recently and "The Maker" was gorgeous.......god, I just got goose bumps again just thinking about it. -StewartTop Permalink
(CB--sorry, I earlier copied you on the wrong one) Glad to hear someone else's impression of Shannon. Her old bass player, Lauren, didn't really "Bail" on her---Lauren is 17 years old and really has a lot of other things to do--like her life. It's not like she went AWOL unexpectedly--Shannon knew she was leaving. CB--Tell me more about the show--what Monsoon sang, how they sounded, what Kristin (drums) was like....any of your impressions. -StewartTop Permalink
If any minaretters are going to the Vegas show on the 20th.....get in touch.... While minarets will be going away for the summer, I still think that we should TAKE OVER another net....I checked, there is no Barry Manalow net :(, but we could all move to the Bee Gees net or the Michael Bolton net ;) ;) ;) Whatdaya think? Anyone in with me?!?!?!?!?! What do you think those people would do if all of a sudden they went from 10 people talking about "How Deep Is Your Love" to 500 people talking about "a thousand things you can eat that aren't cheese". * Heard BOWA on the radio for the first time on the "Top 40" of rockn'roll station in DC - probably meant to play WWYS.... * Saw my first DMB bumper sticker on a car. It was next to a Blue Miracle sticker.....kinda cool, huh? I have been listening to some, sort of old school shows from the floodzone, and trax where dave comes out and plays by himself at the beginging. Dave rocks by himself, I've fallen in love with Rhyme and Reason, without the band. Anyone agree, disagree? I am just pissed that I always showed up so fashionably late to the floodzone, and never got to see him do his opening thing. HosTop Permalink

"Penthouse", there is a medium length (one full page) interview/column with Dave! The Dave Matthews Band sound has a little of everything --- blues, folk, jazz, funk, classical --- but the end result is anything but basic. _Sounds_ by Adigail Demers Matthews assembled what he considers his "dream group of musicians": sax and flute man LeRoi Moore, violinist Boyd Tinsley, bassist Stefan Lessard, and drummer Carter Beauford. The Dave Matthews Band came up with a sound that's introspective without being corny; eclectic, but hold the bongos. perpetually touring, trusting the grapevine to promote their self-released debut album, _Remember Two Things_ (170,000 copies sold). They created a merchandising company, Bama Rags Records, which sells more than $1,000 worth a day of CDs, T-shirts, and --- just what everyone needs --- the band's signature screen saver. group's second album, _Under the Table and Dreaming_ (RCA), entered the Billboard Top 200 at No. 34; the first single, "What Would You Say," immediately earned MTV "Buzz Clip" status; and D.M.B. was declared one of _Rolling Stone's_ "new faces" to watch. good as a holiday, so we keep fresh. Unfortunately Rick, many people get to the end of their lives with deep regrets about how they have lived. History and literature and filled with what they have and have not done. Marlowe's "Dr Faustus" paints a terrifying picture of just this. Dave's song is an antipodal view, unfortunately no more and no less "true". If people CAN look ahead either make plans or make peace with themselves, sure, they'd be happier in the end but MANY DON'T. You say you "can't imagine people like that"--spend about 5 minutes in a nursing home and you will. PLEASE don't reply with some of your self-serving claptrap.Top Permalink
