Song History
Dave wrote this song about the loss of a friend shortly before Farm Aid '17 and debuted it at that festival (9.16.17), having just played it for Tim for the first time earlier in the day.

Before the 1.12.18 performance, Dave said that the song is "about things that have gone past that we loved, but that's okay, but things that we loved that are no longer with us."

He expanded his explanation of the song at various stops on the 2018 Summer Tour with the most complete one so far in Clarkston on 6.6.18:
"So uh, I know that, you know, that we all... there's times in our lives when our hearts get broken, and uh, but that's all part of it, you know because that's part of what makes it so beautiful but uh, but uh, a coup- a little while ago I lost a very good friend of mine and we were having the best day of, uh you know one of those best days where the weather's right, the air is right, and the laughter's right, and everything's right. Anyway, I lost my friend on this beautiful day and I suppose my memory of that day is mostly good except for the end of it. But this song kind of explains a little bit about I feel about my missing of my very good friend."
