Lane Stadium opened in 1965 and has held home games for the Virginia Tech Hokies ever since. It has been expanded several times over the years, most recently in 2006, to reach its current capacity of over 66,000. Worsham Field was updated in 2001 to house a state-of-the-art turf and drainage system, similar to the one used in
Giants Stadium. Mostly due to the expensive nature of the field, the university has never allowed a concert in Lane Stadium, but in light of the shootings on campus on April 16, 2007, they made an exception, allowing DMB, John Mayer, NaS, and Phil Vassar to play a show there to help give the following semester a positive start.
