Song History
The lyrics of "The Star-Spangled Banner" were written by Frances Scott Key in 1814 after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore during the War of 1812. The melody is that of an older British drinking song, "To Anacreon in Heaven." The song was adopted as the United States' national anthem in 1931. There are actually four stanzas; however, only the first is usually sung.

Stefan has been known to interpolate the national anthem into his bass solos preceding All Along the Watchtower, particularly on Independence Day and September 11th. For these versions, we list it as a separate song when it comprises his entire solo and/or when he plays the entire song. Otherwise, we list it as an interpolation.

Boyd has also played the song to open a few tennis matches.
