Rashawn Ross is the trumpet player in the group Yerba Buena, who opened for DMB in 2002; he was also Soulive's touring trumpeter from 2003–2006. He played with DMB at a handful of shows in 2005 and at every show beginning with the 2006 tour. Later in the 2006 tour, he began contributing backing vocals in addition to trumpet.
